"So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" - Joby Talbot
Yes, I've had that song stuck in my head all day. The reason for which is that I just saw the movie of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which would be apparent to true fans after just reading this journal's title. I'll give my review or something. For those of you under the illusion that it's gotten mainly bad reviews, that's not true. It's a wide misconception because the bad reviews are the ones that get the most attention. My local newspaper gave it two thumbs up, and I agree. It didn't have all my favorite jokes in it, but it had to move very quickly to fit into 1 hour and 50 minutes. Apparently most of the audience I was with when I saw it (huge audience) thought it was great too as there was a huge round of applause when it was over. Some tips for you folks who are thinking about seeing it:

-Don't pay attention to the froods who say it's a bastardization of Adams' work. He wrote most of the script himself, including most of the changes from his previous works.

-Bring 3D glasses if you have any. There's a part that has 3D in it (you'll know which part) but unfortunately I didn't find out it was actually 3D until after I got back home from the movie. I'll probably see it again though.

-Don't feel discouraged if you haven't read the book. In fact, it may actually be more enjoyable if you haven't, because the jokes will be new to you, plus you won't be worried about it living up to the book. I'd say optimally you should watch the movie and THEN read the book.

-Stay during the credits, as near the end of them is an Easter egg.

-Press A rapidly.

-If you see anyone show up in their bathrobes holding a towel, don't beat them up. They probably have more fulfilling lives than you do. Even if they don't have digital watches.

And that's all I have to say about that. I know that there are many people who will disagree with my opinion of the movie (this is the most divided movie review-wise I have seen in a long time) but I think that most people will enjoy it. Feel free to discuss your opinion of it in response to this journal entry, or just bash me for being a nerd. Either way, I get more replies.

Ratio Says:

it was at this very moment that a hole in the time space continuim appered and sucked his words right into it.

1000 years later, billions of light years away two armies faced each other each one hyped up and ready to slughter each other in nuclear war.

the two opposing generals faced each other for the final time, one of them glared at the other, and demanded to takes back the comment about his mother.

just then, a rip in the time space continuim appered, and the words "i seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle." drifted accross the room.

This was a temendos insult, and both armies set off imediatly to travel through time and space to attack earth, the planet where the creature who had spoken these words came from.

this would have been a disaster, ezcept by some twist of fate, the whole battle fleet was eaten by a small dog.

- brilliant sketch

Sman Says:

I read the books. They were awesome. I saw the movie. I thought it was awesome.

I saw it on opening day. I wore a shirt that had a 42 on it to the theater. I wanted to bring a towel, but I didn't realize that I forgot once I got to the theater.

My only complaint about the movie is that they left out the scene where Arthur looks up Earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide. That one part pretty much defined the books.

Now I'm trying to look for a legal mp3 for the 'So Long and Thanks For All the Fish" song. It's the best song ever.
