Missing Persons: Destination Unknown
Our cat died. He was 16, so he'd lived his life - about 96 in cat years - but he was on his last legs - well no legs really; three of four of them had swollen up badly. The vet said his Kidneys were going as well.

Putting a cat that's been with you pretty much all it's life is just a bizare process. It's like a scene from iRobot or something - he was sitting in front of us on the bench, and we signed the papers and stuff. He was still there through all of that. My mum left the room, and I had to clean the crap up from his cage (always hated traveling by car - just one corner and it's a pong all the way to the vets - and we're talking one NASTY smell).

He was still there - I guess at that point the pain wasn't that bad. I said goodbye to him and closed the door and left.

Clinical? Nah. Didn't feel that way - I guess if he'd been operated on before this happened that would have been one thing. It was just strange.

We still have our other cat Toby, but long story short he was our Gran's cat - spoiled, fat, a bottom one could vent pies out of. So my Mum's intent on finding a kitten to fill Tom's shoes. We went into Bradford today and had a look around at a few Pet Shops, but it was 'adoption', 'Not ready yet', (despite being away from their Mother - again WEIRD! It's like when you're waiting in a restaurant and they say 'coming in a minute!' or something like that ) and Darnell's was charging £75 and for basic moggies.

We got home, and sometime later my brother told us a friend of his girlfriend had two kittens they were trying to offload, so we're going to get a kitten in a few weeks. Hopefully it'll be a hunter rather than a road roller that Toby is...infact I think we're going to have to make sure he doesn't eat it or something...

But like all my other pets that I've known and lost, (not literally) I'll have my memories of that cat and what he did. Cleaning up cat shit at the Vets was certainly a good smell-cue anyway.

Tom 1994 - 2009
I came, I saw, I caught the mice.....

...and the birds. And the goldfish in the pond, the odd frog, a squirrel and probably lots of unknown others.'
