I've played Contra. I'm partial to Contra three, but I love the games. Starting this I thought I'd want to kill the kid...but I don't.
I still think they're great games. I think most the stuff on the SNES and NES are more addictive because I grew up with them...but I'm partial.
As far as graphics and music are considered, they're endearing because its part of my childhood. Asking some kid whether the graphics are impressive after they've played halo 3 is like having someone look at the sistine chapel and then comparing it to Picasso's hands holding flowers. One is obviously more impressive...but that doesn't mean that one is bad and one is not.
I am bothered by the watered down difficulty in games recently. (No need for the old game genie anymore). And no the kid doesn't give Contra much credit. And Halo one was good, and 3 is kind of rehashed fecal matter...but gaming has gone down some weird road where online content and how shiney it is matters more than its actual campaign story line is.
Which is probably why I haven't touched any of my controllers in something of a month.
