I had to buy gumboots - I believe there are localisations on the name of these so if you're wondering what on earth gumboots are; they're also known as wellingtons and rain boots.

It started raining as I walked to the shopping center and my shoes were not waterproof so my feet got wet.

I thought; oh well. I'll get some gumboots - it may be spring, but it's raining more now than it did in winter so I'll get some use out of them. How expensive can they be?

Hah.

The plain ones with no decoration started at $25, and the nicer ones with designs on them went all the way up past $40.

Since when do gumboots cost so much? I was expecting $10 or $15 for some plain old neon yellow ones like I had as a kid (they didn't even have neon yellow!) - for $25 I could have just bought another, drier, pair of shoes!

All hope was not lost though; I found some on discount hiding way at the back. They were marked down from $39.99 to $15, though they were pretty ugly. Plain black with a woolly magenta top. I think I can fix the ugliness however; I just need to work out what kinds of permanent style markers will work on gumboot rubber without doing any damage.
