"Cursive may be a fading skill. The decline of cursive is happening as students are doing more and more work on computers, including writing. In 2011, the writing test of the National Assessment of Educational Progress will require 8th and 11th graders to compose on computers, with 4th graders following in 2019."
What is this?!
I still write in Cursive, in fact I only write in Cursive, (which is why I can't hand in handwritten papers, my teachers don't want to, or can't, read Cursive.)
Who can write in Cursive?
Czechmate Says:
I started writing in cursive when I was in the fifth grade: when we were forced to write only in cursive. Everybody had already learned it by 3rd grade, but because I was new to the school district I didn't know how to write or read it. The teachers were utterly unsympathetic, so I had to learn it on my own -- and fast.
Now, I almost never use it (aside from signing my name). It takes me too long to write it, which defeats the purpose of using cursive in the first place. Still, it is disappointing that cursive is becoming a lost art. It's quite the handy thing to know.

It's all I write in! And, I'll continue doing it for the rest of my life. That's so sad how it's fading though ):. But handwriting is an important skill, and I bet it won't just be computers used. But it's just..really depressing thinking about it.
Leondra Says:
i can but i dont because my print looks nicer and is easier to read lmao >:
Zetsubou Eureka Says:
I can't and my print is awful.
Teachers had to struggle to read my chickenskratch.
thegrapefruitisaspy Says:
I write cursive, but now I think about it its probably more of a hybrid of cursive and print lol
the school age kids I deal with @ work always print their names when I ask for their signature. it's a changing world, I suppose.
KellyJelly Says:
I learned cursive in 2nd grade. Some of it I don't remember, I usually print anyway seeing as how none of my teachers require it anymore. If kids don't learn cursive how are they going to sign things?
Kstreet Says:
Mine is a mix. If I'm writing really fast and in a hurry, it's cursive... but if I'm really trying to print it's like an ugly love child between cursive and print. Some letters are printed, others are all loopy and crap.
