It seems Sheezy doesn't know how to handle free art so here are the guidelines.

~*

Check to see if the person is don't requests. They have a text "art status" on their profile ,or have a "picture" status sheet visible on their page somewhere. Some artists aren't ones to update in accord to their "mood" ,so even is it seems stupid you can still ask. You can use what i just said as a good reason.

HOWEVER, in terms or artists that have NEVER been known to take requests DON'T ASK! It will just piss them off.

Upon making the request link to what you would like the artist to do. Don't just say "use any of my characters" or "draw me". That's fucking stupid.

"Use any of my characters" can lead to misunderstanding. If you have fan work the artist may not know that's not your character ,because not everyone may be familiar with the characters you like. Also (this has happened to me) you may have random characters in random art ,and that IS an original of yours. Link to what you would like the artist to do.

"Draw me" only works if you like to your photo(s) or persona(s). We are artists. That doesn't makes us automatically know what you look like or if you mean YOU or a PERSONA you have.

Avatars are NOT good refs! I'm not saying a fully ,perfected ,details ref sheet or text description is required. I'm saying a (at most ,on most sites) 100 x 100 barely see-able pic or headshot is no enough for someone to draw off of.

With text descrip have as much detail as possible. (I don't work off them ,s anyone with a problem with that is on their own.)

If you don't have formal ref sheet one or 2 pics of the character clearly seen is enough. That means a group picture isn't much of a good idea ,either, unless it's a "line up" type thing.

PROTIP: Having the characters personality descrip helps ,as well. That depends on how much you care about the artist's 50/50 % chance of drawing your character out of it's normal habits without being properly advised otherwise.

You can also say how who you would like they character to be drawn ,or what you would like them to be doing in the picture. No one's going to to stone you for it.

In the event you are rejected DON'T GET BUTTHURT ABOUT IT!

There are plenty of artist's in the world ,and just because the one you asked didn't want to do it doesn't mean someone else won't.

Fussing about it only makes you look snobby and spoiled ,and gives you a chance of more rejection just because won't want to deal with your attitude.

~*

In the event you are accepted DON'T COME UP WITH MORE DETAILS YOU WANT DONE!

What you have presented to the artist has been accepted. Nothing more, nothing less.

THANK THE ARTIST! They were kind enough to draw something for you. It's not a god given right you have ,so thank the person.

WAIT PATIENTLY. The artist has the right to revoke their decision at any time for any reason. One of which being "getting harassed".

~~~###
ARTIST'S RIGHT!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The right to accept or refuse to draw ANYTHING for ANYONE for ANY REASON.

That is just as it states.

Religious beliefs
Personal reasons - weihter or not they have anything to do with you
Just their own set of what they will and won't do ,because what they and and don't like to draw or even see themselves.

The artist can CANCEL on you. This is just more hurtful when it's paid commissions ,and you've already paid your money. If it's free art ,then just deal with it. They may have just changed their minds ,or something important has come up. SOME THINGS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THEN AN ART REQUEST!

~~

I might add more later ,but for now this is it.

Now you have no excuse to be ignorant to how things work.
