Videogames are awesome, no question about it. But it's safe to say that when they try to get adapted to the silver screen, its almost instant fail, no question about it. But cartoons, on the other hand, you honestly couldn't tell. It could be the fruits of your childhood or the one responsible for killing it. This top 5 best and worst goes these very cartoons.

Top 5 Best Videogames-to-cartoons

5: Devil may Cry

This one is a bit of a stretch but Devil May Cry is a an enjoyable anime, even the english dub where you would expect them to cut shit down (they didn't much with DMC, btw!). Based around sometime after Devil May Cry 1 (or two, its hard to tell but its defiantly sometime just before the 4th game) Dante is just dealing with his devil hunting business. The supporting characters Patty and Morrison are surprisingly likeable characters that makes you want to learn more.Lady and Trish also make appearances in the cartoon as well. You don't have to play the games to understand the plot or the characters but it would really help as this isn't an adaptation, more of a plot hole filler. Sometimes, there would be references to the games but again, nothing major but you will have to play the games. As for the action, there's plenty of graphic and horrific scenes like in the videogame but not much in comparasment to a single videogame but that's really nitpicking. If you enjoy Hellsing or Outlaw Star, then I would suggest this gem.

4: Megaman

The cartoon is pretty much what you would expect from the videogame series and more. following the same plot as the first megaman game, Dr. Willy re programmes Dr. Lights robots to use for global domination along with Proto-Man, Megaman's brother. So Dr. Light reprogrammes mega into a fighting machine to with a copy ability to take down Wily and his robots. All of your favourite characters were there such as Cut-Man who sounded like Ren from Ren and Stimpy, Guts-man who was the classic brawn over brain type character, Rush sounded and looked like scooby doo. Ok, so the cartoon was pretty unoriginal with the voices and style with the biggest downfall was that it felt like the cartoon was made out of spare parts from other cartoons but that didn't stop the cartoon from being enjoyable. It was action packed, fun and at times, pretty cheezy with the one liners. making this cartoon fun to watch, even to this day when the animation and voices are dated.

3: Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM)

Running around the same time as The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, SatAM was pretty much an awesome adaptation to the franchise. The story was about Sonic and a group of freedom fighters as they try to take down Dr. Robot nick and his empire. it was pretty much the story that kept this cartoon great. Sonic was young and full of himself like if he was that big brother you never had (as he relationship with tails was) while the rest of the characters were just as interesting like Sally Acorn who is a princess and leader but sounded like a nervous wreck due to the stress of trying to take down an empire at her age while Tails was pretty much youngster who would stay behind due to his innocence and age. The only shit thing about the cartoon was that the series ended with a cliffhanger. The third season was cancelled regardless of it being so successful.

2: EarthWorm Jim

The Videogame was just utter crazy and so was the cartoon. The video game had potential for a cartoon show from the word go. The show was about an earthworm who had a supersuit landing on him, turning him into a powerful super hero. He also had a puppy sidekick who would turn into the hulk whenever he feels pain and Green sludge called Snot (who first appeared in the second game). The cartoon was that popular that people would forget its based off of a videogame which is a shame because the videogames were overshadowed by the cartoon. I hope the rumour of a next gen earthworm jim becomes true as well as a new cartoon show because that would just be awesome.

Did you know that the voice of Earthworm Jim was actually done by Dan Castellaneta, the guy who is the voice of Homer Simpson. Interesting, huh?

1: Poke'mon

As much as most of us hate to admit it, this cartoon was pretty much the only one that was loyal to the videogame franchise without making it shit. You can call it shit al you want but you really cant say that you didnt like this show when you were cought in the pokemon craze that was going on at the time. Kids ate this up like they ate up on the craze. The show revolved around a poke'mon trainer, Ash Ketchem. Ash has the biggest dream of becoming the greatest pokemon master of all time and to do so, he has to catch these creatures (preferably all of them!) and force them to fight with other pokemon. sounds cruel but as I say, the kids ate it up and it was a pretty damn original idea for a cartoon show. Show much so that there was many bastardised versions that came and went to try and cash in on this such as "Monster Rancher" and "Dinosaur King" but they all failed greatly. The Poke'mon cartoon show is still going strong to this day since its release upon the world in 1998 (1996, being it's debut in Japan) with around 12 movies based on the cartoon. That's pretty much has to be one hell of an achievement.

I'll talk about the top 5 worst in another journal, have a nice day :)

SatAM and Earthworm Jim

YES

How much I ever loved the original Pokemon series, those two first cartoons made out so much of my childhood before I even knew of Pokemon

You're going to put the Super Mario Bros. Super Show in your next one.

It's just so obvious.

Fei Lynn Says:

so like after reading this, I watched the DMC vid at least twice. -Dante fiend- :x

Medjai Power Says:

Rumour has it that season 3 of SatAM is currently in the works. It's unconfirmed though and most likely not true.

SHiDa Says:

I'm surprised Sam and Max didn't get a mention - I'd consider it one of the best game-to-cartoon adaptions myself.

Good choices though.

Frario Says:

The pokémon theme will never get old <3

Prismind Says:

I will have to give DMC a try

stickpirate Says:

I never knew they made a Devil May Cry anime, but it looks EXTREMELY similar to Hellsing so I am tempted to check it out. Besides that I watched all of these as a little kid and I loved every single one.
