You should have gotten the fan replaced before it was too late. Gameshops around my area can replace it for about $12.
That happened to mine once. I unplugged it and let it sit on a table for a few weeks, and when I plugged it in again, it worked fine. Though I now leave it unplugged when I'm not using it because it developed a habit of turning itself on.
