Am I the only one who wishes most stories would lighten up? I mean, I love dark stories, don't get me wrong. I write tons of them. If anyone here has read any of my Rockman.EXE fanfics, I use to write very dark stuff.
I was quite happy with them too, since I didn't need to use any sex or much violence to freak people out.

Lonely Pair is like that too, I just haven't gotten to the darker stuff yet, since most of the villains haven't even shown up yet, nor most of the characters.
So is my fancomic The Lost Three.
But what I also want in my stories as well as others is for them to lighten up once in a while. Hell, why can't there be funny or even goofy moments once in a while? Why is everything so gloom and doom? Geez, crack a joke, have an up-beat character despite how bad things are. Give me a reason to want them to survive instead of just boring me with their crappy lives.
And that's the biggest problem. If too much dark and crappy things happen, at some point, you just don't care if they live or die, because the character's themselves start to become nothing. Their personalities start to die out from the depression.
I like to have a mix of that in my artwork as well.
My sister and my friend Kaya(who edited my fanfics when I wrote them and now edits my comic every so often) always make sure I never get too dark.
A character in Lonely Pair that hasn't shown up will was made by her and he's very up-beat no matter what's going on.
My sister is always adding jokes, lighter moments, and such to The Lost Three.
I just wish most stories would remember that, that’s what they are. Stories. Can’t take yourself so seriously all the time.
Sorry if I made no sense in my rambling.

Ahhh, yes.
The darkness of a story. I agree with you on this one.
I don't really like the whole 'grimdark' thing. It works in Warhammer, but not in stories.
Even in the darkest of tales, there should be lighter moments.
For example, in my 'DD series: A hybrid hero', while it is a story full of demons and pain, there are a few... attempts at jokes, you could say.
And later on, I added a companion to the hero, an Elemental Imp, or Elimp.
I will use the little bugger for the happier scenes.
It's an original fiction, too.
