pale immortal: scratchdisk wtf

So I went to go line this one drawing for a friend over on sheezy in photoshop, but I can't even draw a freakin straight line (let alone enlage, line and downsize a full sized picture) because this so called 'scratchdisk' is full.

Can someone please tell me what a frickin scratch disk is?
