All I can say is "wow."

I recently posted a fanfic to another venue, and one of the scenes involved a female being sexually harassed by her superior. I was just shocked at some of the reactions...two guys who either a) missed the harassment or b) thought I had it in there to set up some kind of future attraction between harasser/harassee. And then a woman defending it when I compared that attitude to the sort of men who think "no" means "yes."

Good Lord, are men REALLY such pigs even in 2009?

That's pretty disturbing, that's for sure.

I bet they won't like it when I put the shoe on the other foot in my next story. It won't be X- or even really R-rated, but it's going to be pretty clear in the story that a man was the victim of a sexual assault.

Something tells me the crap's gonna hit the fan when I post that thing and in some ways, I look forward to the controversy. Maybe when men have to consider what it would be like to be in the same place, it might get their attention.

Arbiter K Says:

Making a character out of idiots that bother me isn't the best idea...but it sure is fun, especially if they don't realize that's them.

Joking aside, my fellow man is always got two brains: one in the noggin, one in the pants. Some just like to think with the latter....

Now I feel the need to slap some idiots, lol.

Elfofchaos Says:

Here here to Arbiter K's comment. got only enough blood to run one at a time xD

but meh,I spare no pity for my fellow man because we can be fairly idiotic.

Kwijiboenator Says:

Only in the America. There are quite a few people in the South who are racist still.

Galloglasses Says:

One word: Internets. You really do attract the worst sorts here, even the most civil folks have some of the worst ideas, fetishes or 'values'. As shocking as this is, you shouldn't really be surprised that you found this on a forum. Unless you were on a religious forum, then this is next to revolting.

This is why I nearly always steer clear of sexual relations of any kind in my writings. (Unless storywise it is unavoidable), mainly because it is FAR too easy to get popular on this site with 'smut' (I'm using the term generically), I agree with Arbiter, making fun of your commenters is not the most noble course of action, albeit, a very enjoyable.

However unlike Elf of Chaos and Arbiter K, I must argue: Men are not pigs. The internet attracts the worst and we all have seen it, (some of us have seen uglier stuff then most), Hence I have low standards when I meet someone new on the Internet as I can't honestly expect much from them on faith alone. This is why I am normally polite in my first relations, if a little blunt. However I have seen startling things, men acting like real men and the same for women, (albeit this is largely seen on religious forums, but there have been notable exceptions). The guys on said fansite may have been the 'common breed' of internetters, AKA; the less then classy sort. I think this is case for you to rise above this, I know this has deeply insulted you and I don't blame you for wanted to start controversy, I more then most can appreciate the enjoyment it can bring.

But I do understand your reaction, one time, a few weeks back I saw a story in my club updates named Forced. It was as story written by a female artist where her male character is brutally raped, (and impregnated), by a.... thing. It was horrendously graphic and vividly detailed, so much so I closed the page two paragraphs in (The artist clearly enjoyed heraself, the whole story was at least 2 pages long). I REALLY wanted to report it, but I had no idea wether it was against SA TOS and I'm sure personal feelings, are not grounds enough to have a piece of 'art' removed. (Altough apparently someone did as the art can't be found anymore). I was utterly disgusted anyone could have enjoyed such a story.

Jolie Says:

There's always going to be people who either: A) totally don't get the point you're trying to make B)get the whole point WRONG or C)have a shit-fit no matter what point you're trying to make. Part of the reason I don't write anymore, really. (Aside from the fact I suck at it worse than I suck at art and music. LOL)

Major Says:

These little buggers, in my opinion, may either be trying to screw with you, are ridiculously young and immature, or are a bit twisted, from what I can see. Fortunately, though, not all men are pigs. Case in point being Arby: I wouldn't even be TALKING to him if he were, well, to put it crassly but simply, a dick. |D I watched from a thrid person point of view that all guys have their good sides (genuinely sweet and decent), as well as their bad ones (thinking with the other "head", and far, far worse, depending on the character).

Hmmm... the thought-provoking story sounds quite interesting to me. I have no idea if it would be a good or bad thing to post on the website you're talking about, but I certainly think it would be interesting.

Inyro Says:

I would consider men who hang around on fanfic sites (especially those reading R- and X- rated stories) are more pigs than others. However, many aren't, and I'm sure you've met a good few. It all depends on the place and situation. If you're a girl walking out of a strip club wearing no more than underwear and a coat, men who you come across are more often than not pigs. But if you walk into a police station with the same conditions otherwise, you're likely to get a much more chivalrous reception.

Wow, wasn't that scenario extreme... I guess that's me being guilty of being a man.

I have written fanfictions that have included rape (and similar situations), and have received reactions much the same as I believe you have. Even a few who requested that I "show [the victim] struggle more, to make it more fun." It's not something I want to hear, especially when the scene is only a few paragraphs long and not intended to be the main focus of the story.

You also have to remember that being on the internet frees many, normally civilized, people from their inhibitions. Some may have indeed been speaking the way they would with friends or peers, but many are just taking advantage of the anonymity of the internet.

I hope your stories don't get solely that type of attention, however. That's just unfair to you as an author. =/
