Mood
Confident
This is just to get something off my chest.
What I am about to post has already been said elsewhere, but I feel it needs to be pointed out to end the madness that has become of Sheezy lately. I still don't even like it here yet I feel compelled to fix it.

How many of you know the 7 main rules of the TOS?

I fail to see how users can put blame on anybody for the way the community acts. If anything it's the community's fault that things are like this. It only takes one thing and everybody is onto it.
Recolour artists, whose fault is that? Did someone advertise to tons of recolour artists to join the site? Same goes for "13 year olds" as people aptly call them. I've been on Sheezy since I was 17 (I'm now nearly 22). I have witnessed many things, I've come to terms with how the community works. Back in late 2006 there was an explosion of bandwagons, then later on in early 2008, the memes came along. These are just some of the positives, but the negatives work in the same way. Word of mouth.
Who brought the recolour artists here? The community did.
Who brought the "13 year olds" here? The community did.
We can't change that, the admins can't change that, the mods can't change that.
Going back to the point of me being 17 when I joined, and I also know users who were 14 when I joined.. Didn't Sheezy always allow 13 year olds? If not, when did this change occur, because I'm sure it never changed.
Next on the agenda, mature art.. mature art has always been frowned upon ever since 2005, Sheezy only ever accepted artistic nudes that do not have suggested or implied sexual activities (and I remember reading ages ago that no submission was to allow open vaginas or erect penises, this has always been the case). This is another thing I'm sure of that hasn't changed.

Whether rules have changed is beyond the point. So I continue.

Why is all this happening?

It's happening because it is easy to blow things out of proportion. Yes, two artists got banned today for having art in their galleries that went against the TOS, this caused the watchers of these two artists to kick up a fuss, thus spreading onto the front page through the use of journals and art. We are then reminded of the other current issues (and I use the word "current", strongly).
Basically, small, simple and fixable issues are being blown out of proportion, when what we really need to do is think for a moment.

What can we do to stop this?
The answer is easy.
For each problem:
People banned for uploading sexually related art - People should calm down and read the TOS every now and then, it's a good read, and will definitely save confusion in the future.
Recolours - If you find something that violates copyright protection, you can report it giving as much evidence as you see fit to help the mods make better judgement. Note that video game companies actually like fan based works since it gives them publicity, hence why they don't sue every single recolour artist or fan artist. There's nothing we can do about that though.
"13 Year Olds" - If any user (doesn't matter if they're 13 or not) breaks a rule in the TOS or Code of Civility, you have the right to report that user, the mods will then look over the issue unbiased, and take action accordingly. Unfortunately, you cannot report someone for bad art, but after all, this is an art site and they have as much right to showcase their art as you do.

...*takes a deep breath* I hope this can be of use to anyone. :3

If you would like to discuss any of the issues mentioned in this journal, I'll be glad to hear what you have to say.

Kind Regards,

- Matt

SHiDa Says:

Why aren't you a Sheezy mod, Matt? You'd be good at explaining the reasoning for warnings/bans.

I find people forget that the site is ran at someone else's expense, and think it should be all about serving them and their happiness, rather than the entire community.

Also, the TOS and SA isn't that well-pointed to in the design, with it being at the botton of the page, in its own box, and even at registration, I'm sure people would just skip over it because it's all a big bunch of legalese.

Geez, this journal needs to make front page.

Elfofchaos Says:

fact of the matter is:

people don't read much around the site anymore unless its some sort of scandal around sheezy :3

DarkScythe Says:

Offtopic Question

Do you know how to fullview sheezy artworks in ubuntu? I haven't been able to do it and it was one of the reasons I gave up on linux.

Ontopic
Nice rant. Hopefully will open some eyes.

Kagorae Says:

I think a lot of people are just too lazy to read the TOS. I mean, we could seriously fix this problem if people would just be more mature about everything. Seriously, that would clear the whole problem up. Too bad only a few people are mature about these things :(

Cyril Says:

Bleh, this is why I am not part of the community as I should be. I look at arts that interest me, fave them and rate them and sometimes I even comment. But I only ever get introduced to the drama by reading rants...

I think more people should operate like me, and "not give a damn" or at least about things that make sense.

But then again, 13 y.o. folks tend not to think like that, everything is like a personal offense to those people.

giascle Says:

I'm sick of people pushing all their problems onto the mods. Whenever I make a journal about how I was given a warning for something, everyone goes DURR HURR MODS = FAGS. No, I perfectly deserved a warning and I don't blame them a bit. The only thing about which I disagree with this journal is the matter of recolors. No matter how much they're reported, they never seem to be banned.

SaRaH ExPLoSioN Says:

I just don't pay attention to the drama.

And honestly, I only get angry every once in a while when I go to click on something (mostly photographs) and they're GIANT. But I've been trying to stay calm and politely ask them to resize it.

Or like...a month or so ago I reported this guy because he was uploading...basically porn. Badly drawn porn. So a mod took out all of the stuff that was like that...and he made a journal calling me all of these names and whatnot.

But, hey. I'm cool with it. I don't do this stuff to anger anyone. Maybe I'm trying to make this community better. -Shrug-

Shadow Dinosaur Says:

You speak well of these things. Would be interesting if you did what Shida said and became a mod.
You think things alot like my friend Shaun does. Its just alot of drama really, so I guess we should just let it shimmer down really. Yet I do believe the 13 year old rule is a bit extreme with artist who are just turning it.

Tiomara Says:

As per the pornographic submissions, prior the ToS change in 05' I believe, (not sure on the official date) Sheezy did allow such submissions. However we changed the site to make it suitable for minors under the age of 18 to view, so it was no longer allowed. The allowance date for 13 is the age of thirteen, nothing below it due to the artistic nudes.

However it is refreshing to find someone who is in support of the mods, seeing as how we are only enforcers of the rules, not the directors of the community. Each person in the community is their own person, we don't make them submit artwork that was against the ToS, we just monitor what has already been submitted.

Thanks for the support!

SallyMusic Says:

I'm with Cyril on this one, I'm purely here for the music and no other reason. I must have been lucky because I've got to know some very nice people and haven't been affected by, what appears to be quite a bizarre and immature section of the community. I have no interest in gossip or attention seekers, so I'm quite happy to continue listening to the music, and avoid all the unnecessary dramas!
