  BewareTheJim: The Other Side World

I decided to post a blog with some various details about the World in SFTOS, so here it is. This was going to just be some little thing in notepad for me to keep track, but I decided to share.

The Other Side is just one country on The Big, Wide World, you know. Other lands include Far Away to the west, Over There to the east, The Basement to the south and the Land of Nod to the north.

The Other Side, a country split through the middle by the Pebble Mountains, is largely ruled by King Goober, who watches over the land from Other Side Castle just outside of Humongousville, which is the biggest city in the world. This city and all of The Other Side's towns and villages are in the valley south of the mountains, with the northern half of the country being wild jungles. Other areas on and near the country have their own leaders, and many times are filled with very specific creatures. Boss Goom and the Gooms tinker in their tunnels underground, and rarely are Gooms seen above ground. King Napoleon (Formally called Hopsa which is a stupid name) and the Frogs call the Frog Kingdom their home, living in the marshes between the land and the southern sea. The dinosaur tribes and Apes in the jungles north of the Pebble Mountains are plentiful, and all have their own leaders. Like every land in the world, The Other Side is populated by Goobers, various animalpeople, talking flowers and the occasional robot.

Far Away is a very rural country, with many rolling plains, castles, and monsters and dragons. I haven't created any royal family or ruling party for this country, I've basically decided it would be similar to medieval England, with all sorts of people claiming to be king or leader from their dinky castles. One detail I have fleshed out was a group of Nomad Pigs called the 'Breakfast Army' behaving in a manner similar to the Huns, razing castles and causing all sorts of chaos. They carry pop-guns and shoot eggs at their enemies. This place needs some characters to web the details together, which is something I'm working on. Risk and Captain Sword may end up uprooting from their positions and going here.

Over There is going to be a little like modern Europe. I've come up with cities full of people obsessed with the aesthetic, having gone overboard with everything from wacky fashion to absurd city planning. I've got one city similar to modern Rome, which is very pious. Other details of this country include a desert which is home to a league of rogue pilots, like in Australia's outback.

The Basement is an anomaly in this world. It's more imaginary than an actual land mass, and is basically a giant pile of toys near the south pole. Princess Kate and her BFFs rule this place, playing with all sorts of toys.

The Land of Nod is in the northern country, and is covered in snow and ice. This place is very inhospitable, especially because it is ruled by an all-seeing all-powerful wizard who doesn't like outsiders in his country. There are few villages here, all of them on the edges of the land.

Since I've expanded the world, a lot of things that were once on The Other Side have moved completely off, like the wasteland. Some details have changed, like the Frog Kingdom moving in from the sea and into the marshes. A lot of story details in my old submissions have either been removed completely or changed in a big way. For example, I've split up my initial group of Goobers (Bark, Bubbles, Flyer, Gooody, Nina, Pup, Goom, Heyew, Star, Puncher, Flib) to make more varied storylines. Sure, they'll still cross paths, but they aren't a 'main cast' anymore.

I've got locations in all of these countries, but I refuse to draw maps. I want these places to be ever-expanding, getting bigger when I need them too and accommodate new towns and places of interest.

Finals finished off my classes with a bang, but work and the upcoming holidays have prevented me from scanning or finishing any work. I've got more expressive Other Side art waiting to see the light of Sheezy, both of old characters, redesigns and all new faces. After New Year, expect some of them.
