I use the term "hieromonk" to describe what exactly Geilech is, in the Church as portrayed in the world of
Shadow Blade, but that's only approximate--he's a priest/monk, yes, but in some other ways he has much in common with Catholic monks.
As to his vestments--the robe you see him in is no more his personal property than the staff he carries. They belong to his church for his use during services; otherwise he wears a much simpler cassock.
