only Asians should be drawing in the anime/manga style...
How ignorant can you be? You either don't know a thing about art and the art market or can't get enough pageviews/sells on your non-anime styled artwork.
Where would the art-world be today if all artists
had been like "NO! Impressionism is only for PARISIANS!!!!" hahahaha. Certain styles will always draw more attention even if they're not always represented by the best of artists.
One of the best manga I've read in a YEARS has been Dramacon. Drawn by a Canadian!! haha! It' muuuch better than most of the "authentic" manga I have picked up. Non-Japanese manga art/books are still valid.
It' just a fucking style that was derivative of AMERICAN cartoons. I love to draw in the anime style and will continue to do so

a
I also hate the 4chan mindset of the best cosplayers are always Japanese. ::eyeroll::
Fucking weeaboos.

I think I understand where you're coming from. It's like Anime has become such a HUGE thing in America that people are forgetting about all the other styles of drawing out there and instead just draw Anime crap.
I draw in a slightly anime style, but i'm also heavily influenced by the clear-line style of europe and alot of classic disney and warner bros drawings. I think people need to just stop and look around for a second. Just because it's popular doesn't mean you HAVE to draw it.

Dramacon is amazing, first of all.
I draw tons of anime style stuff, and whenever my little brother sees my art he's like, "You're such a fucking nerd. Stop pretending of Chinese or whatever and get a freaking life. No one likes this crap so just stop!"
My response is usually something along the lines of, "Shut up! It's better than burning stuff and doing bike tricks and wiping out until your legs look like they went through a grinder! And if no one likes anime, why does the high school have an ANIME CLUB?!"
He doesn't get that just because something originates in another place doesn't meen people can't like it in other regions.

I think a lot of people are just tired of seeing it over and over all over the internet. Especially when all the 13 year olds start drawing it before gaining a grasp on human anatomy, which results in far from pretty outcomes.
As for the cosplay thing, it's all down to the individual. However the best cosplays I've seen have always been Japanese, I'd put it down to being a cultural thing.

Well, I used to get picked on for drawing "Anime." until I realized that I had a style different than from stereotypical anime. This occurred to me when my art teacher said, "You can't draw anime because I saw someone copying from a book. Period." This girl in my class had a pretty distinct style, but it was stereotypical of anime; Big eyes, Flowy long hair. My art teacher TURNED her beautiful original artwork down because she said," No. It's anime."
.
In case you haven't got it yet, I talk about this sort of Anime-Manga/American comic discussion a lot.
For the hell of it I continued to draw in my own style and hadn't had one bit of gripe from her. One of my friends was close with this teacher and they were having a conversation about it. She mentioned that I had an anime style and the teacher didn't even know. "What? She draws anime?" It shows how ignorant people still are in America and how they don't realize that things are branching out.
Then again, my style is a bit more on the realistic Manga side and even still people don't understand that there is a difference between A. The artists B. The type of Manga/Anime C. Comic books/animation. Its sad really. I usually compare it to American stuff so their puny brains can compute.
The only reason why people think that Asian people do better cosplay is because anime is drawn to resemble Asians. Thats why Caucasian people do a better job of cosplaying, lets say, superman. He was drawn based off a Caucasian male. And thats why Asians do a better job at Inuyasha because he's made to resemble an Asian male. I've seen some non-Asians do amaaazing cosplays just as I've seen Asians do crappy cosplays. People are just being single minded and reluctant to let another form of Art become popular. They think the culture is going to be lost amongst the mix of what we already have.
Ah well, I'm done ranting.
NYAAAH Says:
dramacon is amazing. i really agree with you there, and the issue gets addressed in dramacon 2. something along the lines of "if manga has to be drawn by a japanese person living in japan, pizza must be made by an italian in italy for it to actually be called a pizza"
i love dramacon so much.
honestly it's almost like saying that only eurporeans are the only ones who can paint in a renaissance style
MarrieNL Says:
People are free to draw wich style they want. Anime/manga style has became such a hype, you can't even talk about art theft anymore. It'll become a different if you copy someone's individual style. Other way, people may draw whatever they want, from style to fandom.

I made an account just to leave this comment on this page. I just traced ya' back here and just needed to reply to this comment for lack of support. So here I go.
There's a reason you hear many people saying that only Asians should be drawing anime/manga style, and that is obviously because they have a different culture than us. While the content of the manga; topic, subject, theme, and all around entertainment has nothing to do with the work it does not look by far authentic because of it's art.
Two comments about Dramacon. One it is not authentic art style in any way it is easily differentiated by anyone that reads manga all the time, especially for the overuse of toning. It's not something negative but you can easily tell the difference. Two, it's for the culture gap in them, you can tell it's not based on complete Japanese culture so people already segregate just by that.
You started this post about art yet you changed it on how good manga/anime are. Which is total difference, there can be an epic story with bad art, or just "different" art, and vice versa.
The factor in all of this is the difference in culture. My friend wants to draw manga and he once then told me "Drawing manga is about having your own style" I told him something to that, because he's one of those people that hate different style manga. Told him that if he draws "his own style" he will become what he hates. That only works if you're in Japan, the culture around you developing your own style will be authentic, that however wont work here.
I have nothing against people drawing their own style. Anyone can draw their own way but don't expect it without the culture or experience, to deserve the same respect as authentic "art" not manga, like you said. Oh one last thing about the cosplay thing, it's obvious anime is based on Japanese people, so it's obviously that it'll look better on them than on other people, unless of course you have the right proportions. As for other Asians people just see them as they "all look alike" so you can't win against them.
P.S. Don't hate on 4chan for the weak minded. Not everyone thinks like that not everyone is a weeaboo. Maybe you're just jealous. "::eyeroll::"
