Another journal already!?
No shit.
I knew Satanism is basically Atheism for a very long time now but... I need help with something.
If you're like..."hardcore" Christian don't eat me.
As some of you may know my OC's my animu series
Nevaeh revolves around the Christian religion, and "Devil Worshiping" I have to actually read the Bible again (I read it when I was like 10) to continue my story from a certin point, nothing hard. Anyway, to my question:
If Satanism isn't the name of the devil worshiping religion then WHAT IS the name of this "cult" dedicated to evil? Is there even a name? Or is it just called voodoo?
]: Wikipedia and book sources tell me two different things. I mean...the name of the devil is Satan. Or is it just another misinterpretation of the Bible as some say?
I'm Agnostic personally, but I don't want to hear shitty comments/rants about any religion on this journal. No trying to convert people, or getting pissy/sarcastic at me for asking a question no matter how stupid it sounds.
N a t s u o Says:
Atheism really isn't Satanism, honestly.
Same with being Agnostic.
They're generally either believing in no deity, or not having a set religion you follow.
I'm not really sure what the name of it is.
^ ^;
I've always just refered to it as Satanism.
Jeffk38uk Says:
Voodoo is actually a warped interpretation to describe evil. Actual voodoo was used to protect people and cure from evil, however when Christians went over to the area, in their continuing mission to spread Christianity, spurred lies about voodoo that it brings back the dead and curses people. This mentality has sort of stuck to this day in film, novels and general media.
As for actual names of devil workshipping cults, if you knew that, they'll probably try and kill you or something like that.
AttackOfTheRePeppers Says:
Satanism is a lot like Atheism, but it focuses on the self; in essence, making oneself one's own god. It's a disdain of the concept of God and religion and a focus of the symbolism of Satan as an anti-god, but not Satan as a being, for to acknowledge Satan as a being would be to acknowledge the existence of God.
The only name to refer to what you're seeking is "Devil worshippers"; people who worship the devil/Satan. There's no real name for the group as a whole unless you find some specific devil-worshipping cult that has given itself a name.
I'm a relative of an ex-friend of the last wife/mistress of Anton LaVey (her conversion to Satanism ended the friendship); so yeah, I was creeped out, but looked into the subject out of curiosity years ago, and am pretty sure my info is accurate xD; I could be wrong though.
Michkun Says:
Lulz AttackOfTheRePeppers pretty much said what I was going to say and more~
I got interested in the whole topic of Satanism after watching a talk show with Satanists, Neo-nazis, and Wiccans. D: My parents think I'm loony. I say I be curious~
Meeko XIII Says:
o_o; I'm too agnostic to even know the answer, honestly, but I'll see if I can do some research...
~alone in the dark, once again, lol~
Animayqueen Says:
AttackOfTheRePeppers pretty much has it down to the fine print, to my knowledge (which extends to one book I checked out from the library, but still). At least offical Satanism, as practiced by the Church of Satan. However, many devil worshippers would call themselves Satanist, I'm sure. Cuz they're just crazy like that. But they are not recognized by the Church of Satan.
Aneyana Says:
from what I know about voodoo (from the Travel Channel) is that it's a form of animism(worship of spirits in nature if ya forgot from 9th grade global
)that practices what they consider "white magic". Though it was talking about voodoo in New Orleans which may differ from voodoo in Africa. Also, supposedly all the stuff about voodoo dolls, curses, ect, was made up by people of other religion to create a fear of voodoo since it's "different"
