Oh hai.
I was wondering for anyone who has played this series, do you have to have RE1-3 to play RE4?
I saw an overview on G4 on Demand, and damn it looks so sweet but I don't have enough money to buy the whole series and i'm currently looking at just 4. I know the basic story-line from...the first one I think, maybe the second. I forgot. xD

The backstory of RE 1-3 is explained at the beginning of 4, but only sets the setting of RE4. Apparently, RE4 is much more approachanle and has scored quite well in many platforms.
If you want to know more about Umbrella Corp and what happens in Raccoon city, then play RE 1-3. If not, then the game tells you the basic plot anyway.

Dude there's a resident evil boxset at a store chain called Gamestop (or EB Games), i think it's PS2 only games, but has "Code Veronica", "Zero" and 4 in it. it was only around $30 when i last checked. but go to a used game shop with about $40 and you can get all of the RE games you want for under $20. 83 So, to answer your question, no, you don't have to play the other RE games to understand RE4. okay? 8D

If you want a good laugh, play the original resident evil one for the PS1. lol. the remake was done really well though. you should play all of them. they kick ass. even the new one for the Wii kicks ass.
