some friends of mine and i have started a campaign against those whining about fanart. if you support fanart or the artists who do it, please join us and create your own "I support fanart" piece.

WHY do i support fanart?
fanart is no less valid as art than any other kind of art. using original characters is great, but if you are a fan of something, you have every right to express it through your art. what you choose to draw is no one's business but your own, and others have no right to tell you what you should be drawing instead. i don't think anyone would call old masters "unoriginal" for painting religious and mythological characters, do you?

to the people whining about fanart, please learn to accept the fact that mass-marketed characters are more popular than you are. accept the fact that the front page system is a popularity contest no matter what the subject matter is, and there will always be talented people who are largely ignored due to the fact that they are not drawing what the majority of the community is interested in.

URGENT NOTICE
i understand someone is going around and calling people who forget to include copyright notices with their fanart plagiarists and reporting them. if you recieve a comment like that, please ignore the offensive nature of it (DO NOT RESPOND, you are being flamebaited), and include a copyright notice right away, because if you don't we are obligated by the ToS to give you a notice or warning. we know that everyone knows who naruto or inuyasha or cloud is, but if you don't include a copyright notice with every fanart you make, you are technically breaking the ToS and we must take care of it, so PLEASE don't forget to include a copyright notice with your fanart.
