I have a tablet PC. You're shocked, I know! But it isn't all roses and tea parties.
The tablet I have is a Ramline 510, with a PIII 500 mHz processor and 128 MB of ram. It has a 10.4 inch screen, which is touch sensitive, but does not appear to be pressure sensitive. It does reject palm prints, though, so it isn't all bad.
The calibration for the screen seems to wear off every so often, which is a pain in the bum. And it won't run the latest version of OpenCanvas, much less something intensive like Photoshop. I do have a copy of OC1, which works well enough, although I miss some of my favorite features, like screentones. They would be useful for my current project.
The Ramline has no accessible drives. It comes with a hard drive, of course (6GB) but no cdrom, or floppy. You can buy a usb external cdrw drive from the guy selling all of these tablets on Ebay, but that's still a pain in the bum. The only laptop I have with a cdrom and a floppy drive is an old Panasonic PI ... thing. It's gone through hell and back with me, and I will love it forever and ever. Anyways, I stuck the hard drive from the tablet in that and transferred extra drivers and software I needed, and now I can use my mp3 player for a usb flash drive.
It comes with all of the windows 98 cabs and drivers on the hard drive, so it wasn't so bad not having the cdrom. After I got the wireless PCMCIA card to work (the one designed to work with the coaxial antenna bolted to the case), I was in business!
Except for when I got home to set things up with my own router, I found out that the reason I couldn't connect before was because my router is damaged, and no longer will transmit wireless signals.
ARGH.
So, I quest for good software that doesn't take up many resources. I have to look through my massive folders of software to see if I have any other versions of OC.
If you have any suggestions, lay them down for me.
And if you're kind enough to commission me so I can save up to buy a tablet actually designed to draw on, I will love you forever. I do some pretty awesome photomanipulations, if you'll take a look at my gallery, and my lineart/cellshading isn't too bad either. I make time-delay morphing collages (I'll upload an example sometime) as well, and restore old and damaged photographs. My prices are negotiable, leave me comments.
