Alot of people just download lace design brush's, you can fake lace or actually draw it. Faking it would be just bunching together lines for the general idea, for the real thing I recommend just getting a reference picture and try copying the detailed design into the line art. I agree with those above: looking for a reference would be a good way to go. I'd say, go for a rather simple pattern... Often, when you look at lace, it's really not that complicated. The repetition makes it look more elaborate, though.
