Sister Hazel - Hold On
Anyone who knows me knows I love those stupid little fill 'em out surveys, and the longer they are, the more I can't say no to 'em. I nicked this off of Tom's devART page, and he commanded me to fill it out, sooo... yay!

1] What is your pen name?
Don't really have one. I'm not big on aliases or nicknames, so Mie is just... Mie.

2] How did you get the name?
Uh... It was my great-grandmother's name, and originally, my parents wanted to name me after each mother, but my grandmother on my father's side, Toshie asked for me to be named after her mother instead.

3] Do you use PC or Mac?
PC

4] What software you use most often?
WinAmp, Photoshop 7.0, Mozilla Firefox, and AIM.

5] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
I use my mouse more often, but I need my tablet for CG.

6] The color you use most often is?
Probably pink. I love pink.

7] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
Eyes. I've been big on eyes since as long as I can remember. Funny thing, I specifically will not CG the eyes until last, just because I feel it's the essence/driving-force of the picture, and if the eyes have life before the rest of the picture does, it's just not right, you know?

8] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Drawing can be anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour. I never usually spend longer than that drawing.

9] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Absolutely. I have a "sketch" folder, a "WIP" (works in progress) folder, and a finished folder.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Tahoma. I love Tahoma for it's simple cuteness.

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
300 - 500 dpi

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
Listen to music. I usually can't chat at the same time, because the blinking IM windows lag Photoshop, and if someone IMs me, the new window steals focus and closes my polygonal select.

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
I draw a lot, but I seldom get to finish pictures. I've been doing like, 2 a month, of that, but it's been more like one a month, lately.

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Printer paper, sketchbook paper, napkins, notebook paper, basically anything I can get my hands on.

16] How long does it take to ink something?
About 2 - 3 hours in Photoshop. I haven't inked by hand in almost a year.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Nope.

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?
Most doujinshi is just a fan's way of bastardizing a character or series, so, no, I don't like most doujinshi. And, see above.

19] Ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Not to my knowledge.

20] Did it get published?
See above.

21] Who are your favorite artists?
That's a tough question. Of course, who doesn't love CLAMP? I also like Ueda Miwa, and Azuma Yumi, who is probably best known for her work on the Vampire Savior manga, I don't think the series ever made it to the US, though. Pity. As far as online goes, there are way too many to list. They know who they are, and that they make Mie sad.

22] What's your favourite Anime/Manga?
At the moment, Peach Girl and Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicles, which I'm happy to report has an anime coming out in 2005. W007, I say!

23] Favourite Character?
Sonic and Amy definitely head up the list, but I couldn't not make mention of how much I adore Chikao Otsuka's awesome voice, so Eggman's gotta at least be in the top five.

24] Any artists that you'd like to draw like?
Not one that I can name in particular, but I would love to have a more realistic style. Not complete realism mind you -- Just a blend of it and anime suited to my tastes.

25] Do you buy books a lot?
I religiously bought Peach Girl to the end, and I buy Tsubasa whenever I can afford it. Other than that, I don't often buy books. Oh, and the new Harry Potter books, of course.

26] Did you ever buy a book to inspire you to draw?
Yup. I don't remember what it was, but I found it in an import store, and the style was so cool, I just had to have it. Sadly, it is no longer in my posession.

27] Any video games you enjoy?
Buh. I love the Sonic series, but Heroes was frustrating, Battle's been played out, and there haven't been any new games since, so I'm experiencing a little Sonic dry-spell, but I like most of the Mario series. Paper Mario 2 was really fun, as was Mario Power Tennis, and Mario Kart: Double Dash was freaking awesome. Anyone who knows me knows I adore the Mario Party games to death. Also, Tales of Symphonia r0x0red.

28] Any favourite characters from video games?
Sonic, Amy, Eggman, and Shihna from ToS. Unfortunately, I can't really say I particularly like any of the Mario characters. Oh. But I like Boos, Shy Guys, and Ninjis.

29] Do you have a favourite writer?
J.K. Rowling.

30] Any books you really enjoy?
All of the Harry Potter books, but I'd have to say that so far, Goblet of Fire has been my favorite.

31] Do you write fanfics?
Not actively, but I've written a couple of one-shots.

32] Any music that you often listen to while drawing?
Buh. My playlist is so long.

33] Any recommended songs?
Kumai Matoko - Ki Ni Naru Aitsu
Crosby Stills & Nash - Southern Cross
Bonnie Raitt - Something To Talk About
Counting Crows - Accidentally In Love
Off Course - Natsu No Hi
Billy Joel - You May Be Right
Billy Joel - Only The Good Die Young
Ogata Megumi - Silver Rain (piano version)
Almost anything by The Eagles
Almost anything by Sister Hazel, but a "few" of my favorites are:
Save Me, One Love, Life Got In The Way, So Long, Come Around, Strange Cup of Tea, We'll Find It, Think About Me, Sword And Shield, Shame On Me, and anything off of the 'Lift' album.

34] Any websites that you totally admire?
I can appreciate good coding and nice layouts, but because web design isn't really my thing, I don't really see something and be like, "Wow! I suck because I can't do that!"

35] Do you have any sites you go to everyday?
Buh... Dunno. Gaia, but that's just to check in for a minute, and Amy Fans.

36] What is your dream site like?
One that has a lot of traffic?

37] Do you like your own art?
Depends on when you ask me, but for the most part, I do.

38] What do you enjoy watching on TV?
Family Guy and Futurama. I also liked Father of The Pride, but I haven't watched it in a long time.

39] Favourite celebrity?
Probably Yuji Naka.

40] Favourite color?
Black. </sarcasm> Pink.

41] Favourite food?
Used to be Subway Veggie Delight, but I've found I've recently grown more attached to Quizno's. Gotta love the toasty!

42] Favourite drink
I'll drink pretty much anything, but I go through soda phases. Right now, my flavors of the moment are Barq's rootbeer, and Jones Soda Company's Strawberry Lime.

43] Any places you like to shop at?
I like SuperTarget and Wal-marts -- Convenient get everything in one go places. As far as clothes go, I usually get those online.

44] Can you cook?
I'm competent in the kitchen, but I'm no Elzaar.

45] Any programs you use often for email? Any electronic pets?
I use Outlook Express, and the G-Mail notifier for my g-mail address.

46] Are you a computer expert?
I'm computer literate, and know a fair amount of html, but most coding makes my head spin.

47] Want to become a professional artist?
No. I don't like being told what to draw. I wanna teach kindergarten.

48] Any other jobs you're interested in, besides a professional artist?
... I just said I wasn't interested in professional art, but whatever. See above.

49] Any other specialities besides drawing?
Not really. I'm a useless bum. But at least kids seem to like me.

50] Do you like to watch movies?
Yup. I love movies. Prisoner of Azkaban comes out on DVD this Tuesday! Yaaaay!

51] What's your favourite movies?
Catch Me If You Can, Cowboy Bebop: Ten No Tobira, and yes, the Harry Potter movies.

52] Have you ever entered art contests?
Three. I won second place in one, and first in another. Don't think I'll place in the last one.

53] When did you start drawing seriously?
Seriously? Uh... around fourteen or fifteen. It was some time after I stopped attending real school, and went the home school route. I doodled in class before then, but I was usually deterred, as I don't like drawing with people watching me.

54] Anything that you often use as a reference when you draw?
No, but as I slowly pull away from Sonic art to try to get back in the swing of other things, I'm really going to need an anatomy reference guide.

55] Have you met any of your fans online?
Have I met any of my fans from online, or have I met any of my online fans online? If the latter, yes, if not, unless Matt counts, no.

56] You have a lot of pen pals?
Like Tom, if pen pal can mean AIM buddies, feck, yeah.

57] You have a lot of friends that draw?
Hrmm... I guess you could say that.

58] What time do you usually go online?
Whenever I'm not at work, pretty much. My computer is used for both professional/educational and personal/fun purposes.

59] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
Private chats, yes, because usually, if I'm in a PR, it means I'm role-playing which mie adores, but I really despise member rooms.

60] Do you have your own computer?
Buh.

61] What would you say to the person you admire?
"Will you state for the record, once and for all, that Shadow died at the end of Sonic Adventure 2? And also for the record, say that Sonic is not gay, and has no interest in Tails, Shadow, etc.? And that since Amy's entire character is based around her love for Sonic, she'll never just give up and decide to be with Tails or Knuckles? And can I get you on tape saying that Archie is complete bull? And what did Sonic actually say at the end of Sonic X 52? And when..." etc, etc, you get the idea. Poor man'd never get away.

62] Do you think of things when you draw?
Yeeeah. Putting a pencil to paper does take some thought, though from some things I've seen, it apparently doesn't take much.

63] Have you drawn badly because you think too much?
I don't think I can rightfully blame anything on 'thinking too much.' It's not really a mie problem. Don't get me started on thinking too little, though.

64] Do you have any friends who are professionals?
Nah. Otherwise they wouldn't have time for meh. But my friend Britney's boyfriend worked professionally for a one time thing.

65] Where do you often hang out?
In Matt and I's computer room.

66] Do you have any artists that you don't like too much?
I steal Tom's answer, because it's too damn true. "Any artists that:

A) Steal other people's artwork.
B) Have a complete lack of unoriginality.
C) Whinge about not being able to draw like pros after like, 2 weeks. There's no way to get good really quick people, other than PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
D) Expect me to draw them a pic that takes on average, 5 hours, when they've literally talked to me for 90 seconds on AIM."

67] Situations in which you really don't like being online?
When I have deadlines to meet.

68] Situations in which you hate when it comes to having websites?
Layout changes. Ugh. Buggy little bastards.

69] Something that makes you really glad that the internet exists?
Pre-orders, shopping, eBay, my sweetie, and simply the fact that there's so much inspiration readily available.

70] What about things that make you NOT glad that the internet exists?
N00bs, morons, trollers, whiners, spyware, art thieves, and porn.

71]What's the first picture you've ever shown to the public online?
Crap, I really can't remember. I guess I didn't start publicly displaying my work until 2002, when I got my side7 account, which lasted a grand total of two weeks before I found devART.

72] Do you still have that?
Whatever it was that first went up, I'm sure I still have it.

73] Has your drawing style changed a lot?
Yes, yes, yes. Don't even get me started. There's a whole lot less sucking now.

74] How does it usually change?
Arr, again, I be feelin' the necessit t' pillage Tom's answer. "The more you draw, the better you get. Simple as that."

75] Have you experienced artists block before?
Buh.

76] How did you escape from it?
It usually just goes away on its own, or if it doesn't, nothing gets the inspiration well wetter than RP.

77] What happens when you have artists block?
I can't draw anything to save my life.

78] Any artists that have influenced you a lot?
Hrmmm... I've seen a couple pictures here and there that have inspired me, but I can't really say I'm influenced by any particular style with my normal drawings. With the Sonic style stuff, buh, I'm a Yuji Uekawa fan girl.

79] What made you start drawing?
Boredom. I needed an outlet of sorts.

80] What made you want to get a website?
I never really wanted a website, as I'm far too lazy, but I think I got a Side7 page because my brother's girlfriend had one, and I got a devART page because she had one. Sadly, we're no longer on speaking terms.

81] Where did your site name come from?
I guess if you mean the subdomain before the ".sheezyart", it's uh... my name. So, let's go with narcissism.

82] What do you think about net manners?
Must steal Tom's answer: People on the net have manners?

83] Have you ever been spammed?
Do Mies love Matts?

84] Ever thought about quitting your webpage?
Well, again, if you mean devART, I just moved here from devART because I got tired of the craptastic art theft policies at DA.

85] If so, why?
Art theft.

86] About how much KB is each picture?
Averages out around 450kb per picture. Some are over a meg, some are like, 200kb. Don't usually go any lower than 200kb, though.

87] When creating your site, do you use a program or pure html?
For the last time, I don't have my own site. Buh.

88] Do you have good eyesite?
Nu-uh. I'm seriously blind without my glasses. I'd love to get lasik.

89] If you can get any person's autograph, who's would you get?
Yuji Naka's. Or Jun-ichi Kanemaru, or Taeko Kawata. Or even Chikao Otsuka.

90] What would you say to that artist when he/she autographs for you?
Atashi to sunde kite kureru no ka?

91] Do you have fans of your art?
Surprisingly, yes.

92] Do you like to draw on oekaki bbs?
Nah, I'm not too good at oekaki, and they take me forever.

93] Are you good at art in school?
I took an art class once, for a couple of weeks and dropped it because it was boring.

94] Did you take art lessons other than from school?
Nu-uh. Mie is self-taught.

95] Have you drawn a manga?
Nah. I've done little short comics. I think my favorite was "J. K. Rowling Vs. The Lorax", but I also like a lot of the expressions I managed to pull off in "School Salt".

96] What's your favourite phrase/quote?
I have a few:
"Give me a firm point on which to stand and I will move the earth." --Archimedes
"Only passions, great passions, can elevate the soul to great things." --Denis Diderot
"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." --Henry David Thoreau
"There are three kinds of lies; Lies, damn lies, and statistics." --Benjamin Disraeli

97] Do you think your personality is different externally and internally?
I dunno. Sometimes certain thoughts will have me thinking that I'm really a very shallow person, but I try to be nice.

98] What's your goal now?
Short-term goals: Make it through the next month
Long-term goals: Associate of Science in General Education with a concentration in Child Care
Bachelor of Arts in English
Master's in Education
Marry Matt
Move back to California
Teach kindergarten

99] What do you have to say to yourself?
Try harder, Mie.

100] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone?
Wow... You must have been bored to read through all of that. But seriously, thanks to all my buddies who encourage me and give an ear when I need to rant about work or Amy Fans or art thieves or whatever. I love you guys, and you all know what I expect you to do. Complete the circle. Fill out the survey of doom!

Natashi Says:

Wowwww. Long survey. And I read all of it. But, #61 is.. the dead ringer on what I'd also say.

Great minds think alike, eh?

KazaneDog Says:

Also in response to #61... I totally agree on all of it. Except for the Archie part. ;-; I loves me my Archie~~~! (*coughs*...as an alternate universe. <_<*/coughs*)

#88. :" I'd like to get Lasik, too...but I love wearing my glasses. I dunno. I've just had them for so long that I look funny when I take them off. >_<

As for #98, leave Georgia while you still cannnn~! ;_; As soon as I'm done with high school, I'm *so* finding a nice out of state college.

Yeah, yeah, I'm bored, too. <.<

chaokiller Says:

Bwahahaha! Nothing can escape the Miiiie!

#61 is so damn true it isn't funny.

Momo Memori Says:

WIth #61...When theres others around me that I have NO clue are, I quickly slap down my pencil and or just...poke at something with my pencil till they go away. *lame*

When I think to hard and concetrate too much when I draw...nothing comes out right. It's like Im trying to hard to be perfect or something. And Im NO where near that at all. So I dunno why I even try that. ._.

#88 - Oh, how I wish I could get that too...but that just might make meh eyesight worser. Plus, Im scared of any kind of surgery. I get scared something is gonna go wrong. Lasik may improve my vision though, I don't think it will cure the "Nystagmus" I have x.x;

Triad Orion Says:

; Remind me never to read through a survery that long again! *Laughs*

Aww, man. I couldn't agree more with you on 61, just like everyone and their brothers and sisters. Seriously, what's the deal with Archie? They all completely sucked after issue 46. Before then they were amusing. I blame Ken Penders. Never liked him anyway.

Anydangway, you are a special friend! You probably hate Pepsi Blue as much as I do! Plus, your art is sublime. You're on my watch list! Keep up the great work!
