I was just on DA, and I got a random comment responding to a comment I had made on someone else's artwork MONTHS ago. Apparently, the artist had copied the image off of someone else. I didn't know this, so I commented that the image was cute and I liked the pose, etc.
The person that responded to my comment practically yelled at me as though I was the one that made the copyright infringement. Now, normally I wouldn't respond to something like that, but as I scrolled down, people were completely bashing the artist about the copyright infringement.
Don't get me wrong, copyright infringement is an absolutely serious crime - BUT, once someone has pointed it out, why do people have to continue crawling up the accused artist's butt? Unless the artist refuses to correct it and give proper credit and a link; but then you just report it to the admin and be done with it! No one should have to be badgered repeatedly about it once someone has pointed out the mistake.
That leads me into the fact that almost EVERYONE has copied SOMETHING before. That's usually how an artist develops their own style - they copy bits and pieces of a coloring or drawing style of another artist(s). My artistic style is really just a huge jumble of other artists' styles that I copied or mimicked at some point or another. I know that's not quite the same as copying a picture detail for detail, and that is wrong if you don't have permission or don't give proper credit, but that's how I started out. I just copied other people's pictures.
Anyway, I just had to get that out. It was making me frustrated, and I feel much better now. Anyone have their own opinion?
EDIT- I just wanna make it clear that I am not ranting about this because some random person yelled at me. I'm ranting because of how other people were (are) treating this issue.

That sucks. That person had no right to get mad at you.
Yeah, I actually learned to draw by tracing official anime art.

that really sucks that people do that. i've had it done to me. i didn't know who the credit was to go to because so many people were using the portrait patch on furcadia and no one had credits anywhere. the original artist DID see it, and made a comment-not a nasty one-and i put her for credits, but that didn't stop the flaming. i ended up having to take the images down.
and i agree about everyone copying at some point. hell, NO image is original anymore because EVERYONE is copying something that's already been done. there is not a single unique pose out there anymore because there are so many artists and only so many poses. of course you're going to get multiple duplicates. that doesn't mean you're copying someone else, you know? i've heard it for that, too, though. "Oh, your pose looks just like so-and-so's. *gasp* That must mean you copied them! <FLAME>" know what i mean?
i understand if ONE person mentions something to an artist, but when everyone has to jump on the bashing bandwagon, that's rediculous.
and i'm sorry for the book. but this is one subject that has just rubbed me raw at this point.
