Hi hi!
I know it isn't TECHNICALLY Fall yet, but I just love this time of year so much that I felt I needed to bump its presence up a few notches on the ole calendar. ^-^
So much is good about this season: firey colors on the trees, the cooling temperatures, not looking like a nut in my delicious trenchcoat (I'm slowly turning more and more into Silent Bob, as my years advance), the eerie one-night bustle that Halloween brings. But of course, none of that compares to the real reason why Fall is so great - the new Fall line-up of shows!!!
That right! all your fave networks are busting thier humps for you - the lovely veiwers. It's an awesome time for casual glancers and hard-core fans alike. The real gems that are coming back for me to drool over are shows that shared very different ratings in thier first seasons. I'm talking about LOST and Veronica Mars.
The former stole my soul (and couch time) with its undeniable creepiness and heart-felt emotion. Sounds like a weird combo of things to have, doesn't it? That's exactly what makes LOST work. It brings you right down to the characters' level and treats each one of the main cast as if, when focusing on them, it's thier show for that hour. That attention to detail of plot and character development completely set this one apart from all of its predecessors. The writing is superb, and it looks to be staying that way for a VERY long time.
The latter was a hidden masterpiece. I wouldn't have noticed it, either, if I wasn't an avid fan of Kevin Smith's online blog http://www.silentbobspeaks.com/ . He gave 'Mars' a shining review which seemed genuinely honest, if not a little fanboyish. It sounded right up my alley: An incredibly cute young detective, working for her father's agency when not in school, kicks the asses of a bunch of bad guys while speaking some of the most well-written dialogue on script or screen. It took me all of one evening and change to get all the episodes watched, and I must say - WATCH THiS SHOW. Don't let the fact that it's on UPN muddle your thinking. This show isn't about wrestling hobos or any of that other UPN tripe. This is some prime and choice entertainment. The story is crazy original, the characters are people you could actually care about, and the banter between Veronica and her castmates is witty as all get out. A total triumph.
>____> Holy ramblethon, Batman! I better cut this one short.
