I just came back from another hour of driving lesson.I`m getting worse and worse! My driving teacher ( who is really a good and patient one ) yelled more than once "What are you doing!?" The problem is that I just CANNOT drive and have absolutely NO flair for it.I can`t reckon the distance between the right part of the car and the end of the street as well as the exact speed with which I`m driving ( "You`re too fast."/"You`re too slow." ), don`t know when and with which force I have to press the brakes and/or the clutch, am too violent with the gear shift and don`t manage it to pay attention to everything at the same time.It even gets worse when I have to do certain things very quickly, that doesn`t work very often.
Add to this that I`m generally afraid of the other cars, especially in narrow streets, and that I get so nervous while driving that I just wish the hour would finally pass.I can`t imagine that I`ll ever get my driver`s license...maybe also because I DON`T wanna get it!I knew even before starting with the driving lessons that I`m not the person for driving a car, I prefer going by bus or train.
Firstly, it`s cheaper than buying a car and paying high insurances and gasoline for it ;
Secondly, it`s much more relaxing since you can draw or read what you can`t ( or at least shouldn`t ) do while driving a car ; Thirdly, I don`t go out very often. There are enough shops near my house to where I can walk and if I wanna go to Munich, I just go by train.
I wouldn`t even use a car if I got my driver`s license ( what I highly doubt ).The only reason why I`m trying to get it nonetheless are my family and friends.Everybody has been getting on my nerves for two years that I should finally learn how to drive ´cause "Everybody has a driver`s license." and "It`s soooo simple!Even idiots can drive a car!" Yeah, that really encourages me.Next week my lessons will continue.I don`t wanna sit behind that steering wheel anymore but my grandfather has already paid too much money for it. >_<

Rattlecat Says:

My dear. This is why I'm not driving period. The only place I find worthwhile to go to is the grocery store and the shopping mall. Otherwise, I can easily walk to where I need to go. Unless prices want to drop on me, I ain't touching something with an engine and wheels.

Rattlecat Says:

And to be honest, it's your choice if you want to drive or not. Don't let your family or your friends get in your way if you don't want to drive. Some people even have a phobia of the road. Money, and peer pressure should have nothing to do with your decision. If you can't handle it, don't kill yourself TRYING to handle it. Just stop. That's what the gas pedal and brake in our head is for.

jammycat Says:

Dolphy, ever tried driving an automatic car?

I'm in your same position....I absolutely hate manual cars, but my parents are forcing me to get my manual license (BASTARDS :().

I'd be much happier if they'd just let me drive an auto, since its so much easier than a manual :)

Help you in any way...or am I just babbling?

Black Tiger Says:

OMG you're just like me!^^ I'm taking driver license too, just because a friend of mine asked if we should take the theory lessons together. First I said no, cuz I don't really want to drive a car but then I changed my mind cuz it would make my motorcycle license cheaper (I'm a biker!), if I pass the car test of course. I know I can ride the bike but drive a car....I'm the worst car driver ever!
and tomorrow it will be the first time I'm gonna drive on the road and not on the court! I just have to pray that I won't hit and kill any one.
Anyway good luck with your license!^^

codenamerenegade19 Says:

Well, who really cares what they think (and trust me, this sounds like crazy talk from me because I do value my family and friends highly)? If you're happy with how you travel now, then what's the point of getting a license you'll never use? Makes no sense.

Besides, it's like Rattlecat said at the top: It's your choice, not theirs.

Baka Deku Says:

hrmm, your ppl should stop pushing you... because you really dont have to get that license and if its so stressing and you like the other way better, theres actually no reason good enough to force you to do it. dont worry, its your life, dont take any pressure and just stick to the buss! :) here, have a and some

dragoncrescent Says:

Blegh. I remember learning to drive, and it was just like that. I still don't consider myself a capable driver, but then, I've been on the road for only a little over a year. Truth be told, all it takes to drive a car is plenty of experience. Forget the books and 'driving theory', it just confuses the actual process.
Manual transmission is the devil, though! >_<

Zhenya Says:

*drück*

Balaa Says:

I think your problem is not so much the driving itself but all the people around you putting pressure on you. You should learn to drive when you feel you are ready, if you are perfectly happy not driving..so be it..you should have that choice for yourself! I think most of the reason you feel nervous is because you are not allowing yourself to trust in your skills...ie believe in yourself. It happens to all of us and maybe you arent ready...nothing wrong with not liking to drive! They should all lay off you and let you decide for yourself what you want to do. I learned to drive by myself when I was 21....my mom was there with me but really she was no help. I learned when I felt I was ready for it and could actually afford the insurance.

*snooogs*

Chonni Says:

Lol my mum forced me to get my restricted liscence, she just kept hassling me and hassling me. But im so glad that she did now, I drive everywhere, and im looking at getting a car.

New Zealands public transport is crap x.x
