This is probably one of the largest sculptures I've done. He took me an entire year for me to do, from start to finish. He was one of the top features in the student show at my university the end of the year. His "show" name was Strange Attraction, but like all show horses, he has a "call" name too, which was Mystery (yeah, I know, I'm a dork).
He's made of bronze and weighs about 50 pounds, and was sculpted using the lost wax casting method into bronze. He was made from scratch into wax, and was NOT sculpted first into clay then a mold. I think my bronze professor's comment was something like, "Wow. You're the only person who has ever made anything THAT big directly into wax."
Oh yeah! He's almost lifesize! The green noseband he's wearing is meant for an average size horse, but it fits him pretty well :} Looks good on him!
