Characters Ine (the older woman) and Luna. I've not painted Ine before, but I enjoyed working with her face. Compared with painting the smooth skin of the young, painting venerable faces is a completely different approach - almost more like painting a craggy landscape. The birds were a lot of fun too...and what story is complete without an eccentric hermit bird lady anyway? I worked from a color sketch I created in Photoshop for this rather than starting with a pencil drawing.

*gets to be the first to favorite it on sheezy* this has always been one of my favorite works of yours, I just adore the composition and the contrast between the young luna and the elderly Ine (whose face turned out spectacularly). a truly wonderful piece

Bobfleadip Says:

I love this pict, old people are so damn hard to draw The only thing I don't like about this pict are the old woman's hands, the blue viens seem odd looking, but just a minor detail, this is still amazing

Minstrel Ayreon Says:

Your enjoyment shows very, very clearly in your approach to Ine's face. Personally, she appears more "real" to me than anything else in the drawing, including Luna, who almost seems a little too perfect in contrast.

I found the same thing in your sketches that you submitted recently. I felt like I could see a higher degree of enjoyment, detailing, and realism in your middle-aged to elderly figures than in the young adults and children. This is clearly a great strength of yours--you should go with it more often!

Ohh...and excellent adjective: "venerable". I can't tell you how much it pleases me to see such a respectful attitude towards the aged. I find myself thinking that America and England are the only countries in which "ancient" is considered an insult...whereas in Spanish- and Chinese-speaking countries (that I know of), the term "ancient" is one of respect.

My God...it looks so real...this is absolutely incredible! Everything is so perfectly illuminated...and the texture of Ine's face is so splendidly detailed...you DEFINITELY deserve your space on the front page!
