Hnn. It looks really good for the first shot (on here, at least). You need to add some more darkness around the head on the black-side. Also, never. Rush. Ever. I see you did on the pure-black part; smudge that with a Kleenex like there's no tomorrow. Don't over-smudge on the other parts (you did very well with that, I see), but you need to add a bit more of the smudge-power to his hair, and make the top of his head more roundish. :] You must've worried too much about the face to get the rest of it picture-perfect.
Hehe. I do it, too. Rushing is sooo tempting, but it just messes things up.
