ALL CHARACTERS COPYRIGHT DISNEY!

kat's how-to!

1.) I did the sketch with a thick non-photo-blue prismacolor colored pencil, on mead academie sketchdiary paper. woo!

2.) After scanning, I very carefully took an 0.5 mechanical pencil and painstakingly drew all the little details.. (while on the phone and drinking rootbeer and rocking out to Queen )

3.) In Paint Shop Pro 9, I took the scanned image, and I adjusted the levels, color balance, and doged & burned 4 layers..
(im a complicated person... )

4.) Took a big, fat hard ...paintbrush... and slathered my base colors all over the lineart.. Then, I made the color a wee bit darker, and decided where the shadows should be, ...then smeared it all around. ^^ messy messy... (where did pumba's eyes go...?)
Oh, also, you may have noticed the little globs of colors.. These are the only colors I used.. ..see the wonder of smearing?

5.) More of the same, much more specific cleanup, (ahah! I think I found the eyes!)

6.) Start picking out your highlights... I did this by picking a lighter shade of my current colors, and smearing it around accordingly.. pretty much just eyeball it.. make adjustments whereever you see fit

7.) I made a new layer, and took the regular paintbrush, (not the artmedia one..) and set it to ONE PIXEL, color to allllmost white -yellow, and the layer properties to DODGE... I went over the areas that I thought needed to be highlighted... There's just something about the dodge feature that gives that extra glow.. :aww:

8) Same idea as (7), .... SHINEY! ^^

9... or step 1, ... depends on how you look at it!
I decided to *attempt* drawing a background.. wow.. aren't you proud?!
..just, ya know.. mechanical pencil and that jungle that sits deep within my brain..

coloring the background was very similar to the characters.. the only main diff. was that I started with a darkly-tinted background. ^^ ... and I had about 23 layers going... hence why I didn't show you guys.. far too confusing, and I'm sure there's a much better way.

............. now, I have to tell ya, .. that latley I haven't been quite doing this exact technique.. I've been trying out this whole ... drawing bright colors on a nearly black backdrop thing... I'll let you know how that comes along... k?
