"Dammit Guard, stop crapping up the script with your godamn emo and start kick-flipping someone!"
Okay, I still like him in this stage. He hasn't got any powers and he's a lost little child in a universe too big for him. He's all depressed because of all the stuff thats happened that physically makes no sense (of which you'll get to see soon enough).
Obviously I'm putting forward bits of pointless exposition in order to explain what has happened before this beginning (yes, more stuff happened, you don't need to know. Its just a "how everyone met" sort of thing).
Essentially you should be asking: How can Shana hear him? Who is Shana? Why doesn't he know where he is? Does he have some sort of selective amnesia? Why is he so adament in talking to himself?
To answer one of them: he doesn't have amnesia.
If in the last panel its hard to see, there are eyes in the shadows. EYES! You'll have to wait to see whose eyes (then it'll be confirmed which universe I'm butchering first in order to doujin-ize my comic

)
Enjoy *shrugs*
