Took some time off from commissions to color this, because I really wanted to finish this piece while the inspiration was still floating around in my head. This was the result of manymany hours of coloring/shading while listening to the Revenge of the Sith soundtrack on repeat.
I doodled this originally after seeing the film a second time and realizing the arc of the mentor-type relationship between Obi Wan and Anakin is quite similar to that of Kaid and Thalek. So I decided to stick the two of them in a very RotS-esque landscape. Interesting considering the story between these guys mostly takes place in a frozen landscape...this is the polar opposite.
Before anyone asks about the smoke: no it's not a filter, no there was no fancy trick to it either. I was just swirling around the oil pastel brush in Painter, at a large size, and for some bizarre reason it came out all wispy like that. Clearly the truth here is that I am strong in the Force and managed to manipulate the program to realize I wanted to make my brushstrokes look like smoke, but we'll just pretend it was a lucky accident.
Linework - Mechanical pencil on tracing paper
Flat color & touchups - Photoshop CS
Shading/background/general painting - Corel Painter 8

I love the expressions! and the colors are magnificent! It really shows how much work you put into this. I like how some of the brushstrokes are visible.
And that movie is so awesome, who can resist but use it for inspiration? xD

Excellent, all of it. ...And the backstory to it all must be rather interesting, as well.
