I apologize for the angle but considering the thing was 80 ft x 30 ft this was about the best I could do to get a whole shot of it. I was asked to draw out a gotham style city scape for the summer reading program kick off which is a puppet show. Keep in mind, that the women who asked me to do this requested that the badrop be simple enough for childeren. Sure I could have done all sorts of detail, but since its for a child's enjoyment, the basic idea is given.

This was done on a piece of heavy purple cloth, and I basically taped out everything and then painted everything in. I had the buildings in the background just blue but my mom told me that I should define the buildings more, so I added very light windows, and added a little yellow around the far buildings to look like the backlighting from all the city lights. The black buildings I wanted to have stand out and yet not so, I wanted them mostly in shadow except for the green windows.

My supervisor liked that since I basically didn't want to use the cliche yellow for windows, instead I used a jade green. I added the red dots on the needles to make it look like those signals that are on top of buildings to show that there is something there. The building off to the right is my favorite and its part of where the Taramok is going to be which looks gorgeous!

The moon I did first and decided to have it peaking from behind the building and then added the cloud behind the moon which is used in a lot of the comic book styles. The clouds was watered down white acrylic paint mixed with silver to add a little bit of depth.

All together it took me about a month to sketch it out, present my idea and then get the supplies and paint the backdrop and I am so happy with how it turned out, I hope the kids like it. ^^
