This is Nefris, a mummy character of mine who's lover (deceased) was a priest of Anubis.

This is a new style and technique for me. I was trying to emulate Erte', a fashion and graphic designer from the 20's and 30's. This was a time when Art Deco was all the rage.

Erte's style was very flat with the barest of shading. He used mostly lines and shapes to convey depth. His backgrounds were mostly non-existent, but sometimes he added a design element or two. His subjects were long and lean, much like the skinny flapper girls that were in vogue at the time.

Despite the fact that it looks simple, it actually took me forever to do this piece! I'm not even sure if I'm happy with it. It sucks compared to Erte's real work, imo. I think I added too much shading, as a matter of fact. Bleh.

I want to know what you guys think. I could use a critique, but I wanted you to be somewhat familiar with Erte's style before you offered your thoughts on the piece.

Thanks all! : )

Alright, I have -NO- idea about this 'Erte', so I won't say smething about the style used - except that I think it's a really pretty and itneresting style, no matter if you was sucessful in imitating that style or not ;3 A very interesting character, too, her clothes and adornments are adorable. Awesome work :3

I can definitely see the Art Deco influence. I love the cleanliness of the lines, and I really love the treatment of that green shawl. If you'd like some constructive critiscism, I'd say that the places where you employed gradient shading make for an awkward contrast with the rest of the piece, composed flat areas of color. I also wonder compositionally if the piece wouldn't be stronger with something more of a background, or at least, if your figures were positioned higher on the picture plane.

I think it's awesome. I love the dog and the movement in the shawl.
