B finally meets the dragon he was paid a wealthy amount to pay. After crossing rivers and climbing mountains, hes finally found the nesting ground, and is prepared to use his advanced weaponry to allow the drunken king to get a good nights sleep.

I kind of took the color limitations and mockups a step further and used tiles for the foreground, and seperate palettes for the sprites and backgrounds. (16 for backgrounds, 15+trans for sprites)

Done for the pixeljoint weekly challenge: "Create a mock up of an original game showing the final boss battle. " 2x Zoom

Simply fantastic. It's hard to think back to the days when games would look like this, and to be honest I don't think they ever did.
Some fantastic pixel work goes on in this piece, and we can only hope that never gives up his pixel work, as it would truly be a shame.

Oh, interesting, the comment system is pretty quick on this page. Great.

I gotta say, this has to be your most impressive work, yet. You raised the bar, big time. The daring always get my vote. You sir are inspirational.

One tiny gripe is with the second-layer background of the three (well, four, if including sky). The color at the top, all blue and stuff, kind of clashes with the sandy dune-like hill.

The best parts are the rocks in the background, the dragon, and the tiles. I like B, very to-the-point, but he didn't seem to match the "natural style" of the boss. B looks somewhat assembled, while the dragon looks more elegant and had much more illusion-ish shading.

I think you'll win the competition for sure, if you keep this up.

that is fucking awesome! :D

This is pretty epic, like a screenshot from a bad-ass SNES game. If I knew even one thing about coding, I'd offer to help make it a reality!

I can already hear the dreading and frightening 16 bit Midi tune foreshadowing the great dragons approach. Watch out! He does 5 blocks of damage!

Tanooki Says:

it's such a wonderful contrast, seeing such an unnatural being facing such an organic creature. but something about B irks me. the quality of his shape and the quality of his shading seem a little lackluster in comparison to the background items, and even his foe.

while i'm certain you'll win the competition, B seems to be your weakest point on this piece.
