Is anime a "lonely" hobby?

It's only lonely, if you allow it to be. This conventions, along all the other, proves that it doesn't. We all have personalites and lives, but we have the same hobby, in one form or another, Through that ideal, lonliness is something that doesnt have to be an issue in this hobby. In fact, it should not exist, in the heart and minds of true fans of this hobby, as it is seen that characters we cosplay and learn from, the idea and situation of being alone can be overcome.

The reason it is looked as being lonely is because of the stereotypes. There are situations where the stereotype is true but you may never understand the underlying reason for such. That person could have some phobia, a disability, or something else. Even with that, it takes care and understanding to help our comrades. I had a run in with in a teenager with a mental disability, similar to my big sister. His mom had brought him to the con to have fun, explore and meet people who likes what he does. I could tell that instantly from the happiness in his voice as he talked to me for a few minutes, because his mom went to the restroom for a few minutes. I know that he knows that he doesn't have to believe that he is lonely in this walk of life.

As the rising sub-culture, main stream might not accept us but they do acknowledge us. Remember that we're not trying to replace anything, we're trying to add and enrich other with something that we find close to our heart. Much like religion, you're more likely to be happy and intergrated with it, when it's not forced on you. We must stick together, shun no man/woman/child and accept all that comes with our hobby, fandom, way of life; like the charcters we look up to.

The Masked Man Says:

To me anime is what it really is... the japanese word for "animation". It is a medium in which people use to express themselves and more closely intertwined with with everyone than what we thought.

That canon signature. The style relative to Japan is slowly dissolving in me. We gave them the format and they came up with something slightly more dynamic. And rest-assured it will go back and forth. maybe not to Japan, but Enland or Germany or China...who knows? I think a greater comfort can be achieved if we don't alienate it from others for something that we misconceive it to be, but integrate it for what it really is instead of a marketing gimmick and slogan.

In that way we beat out the stereotypes and people see us for who we really are. Artists and lovers of art.

Rhythm Wily Says:

Anime is becoming more and more popular now and the idea of it being "lonely" is going away little by little.

Catgir Says:

I feel the same way. I mean look at how many people love anime out there. There are so many..it's up there with gamers. Heck some are gamers too. ^^;

Basically I find Cons are definately where you find people that have interests in what you enjoy and can relate to what other people outside in the world think of Anime fans. Definately isn't anything close to lonely being a hobby..unless of course you are the slaving animator that makes the anime. Then the only friends you have are your fellow workers. Also if it was so lonely, then why do the VA's of the anime out there be the same way. No they enjoy the work they do. It's fun to them and to the anime fans that enjoy it along with them. I love going to cons since it is my one way to meet people that have interests that I also enjoy.

I agree though, people look at us like we are obsessed over nothing..or lonely and want to find something to make us happy. Peh..they know nothing.
