Project Lambs to the Slaughter: Karma Police
The graveyard at Dresden was just as I'd imagined it: small, cold, rich with green and dreadfully, completely silent.
Mr. and Mrs. Wolfram did not attend the funeral, nor did anyone else. Wolfgang had wanted to, but he, like Dieter, was a wanted man, and thus couldn't return to his homeland. I went alone, dressed in a two-buttoned, black pinstriped suit, a navy-blue silk tie to my neck and silver cuff links (engraved with the letter W) to my wrists: All items of the young Dieter's wardrobe. They fitted me perfectly now.
Out of sheer respect, I didn't cry when their coffins were lowered down into the damp earth. I couldn't have, they wouldn't have liked it. They would have hated it.
As I stood between the two fresh graves, hands in my pockets, I noticed a young woman crossing the cemetery towards me. She was pale, a pink undertone to her skin; shoulder-length blonde hair, so light she was probably part albino; dull-blue eyes staring at me from under a short black veil. She was wearing a simple little black dress and short stiletto heels.
"Excuse me?" I asked in German when she reached the plot, my accent still very much Dutch.
"Hello," she said softly, lips smeared with red lipstick. "I'm looking for a Mr. Hendrik Leopold."
Wolfram. The name was Hendrik Wolfram.
"Yes?" I tried walking away from the plot, to get her to come with, but she just stayed put.
"Pleased to meet you." She reached out a feminine hand for me to shake. "I'm Sibylle Wolfram."
Introducing Sibylle, Dieter's little sister. That will be all.
