The ahuizotl is a monster of Aztec mythology. It is cross between a monkey and a dog, accroding to some sources I've read. It lives in water and makes human cries, like those of a baby to draw the attention of a person. Once teh person is close enough, it grabs the sad victim with the hand on the end of its tail and drowns them. After allowing the body to rot for three days, it eats the eyes, teeth, and nails of the deceased. Here, the ahui has already eaten the eyes and is working on teh teeth...hence the lack of lower jaw on the human. Oh and note eyeball earring.
This piece was done for the Bump in the Night horrow portfolio.
