Lucian likes to watch people. They’re fascinating, like a science experiment, and the world is a petri dish. Quiet and unassuming, you’d never see him at the centre of attention, and while he doesn’t exactly dislike being in group situations he much prefers the intimacy of one on one company… but don’t mistake social tendencies for geniality. He’s there to stick a finger in the mixing bowl, to dirty up the ingredients and see what happens when people collide.

Psychology intrigues him, body language and the way individuals react to different stimuli, their little nuances, their nooks and crannies… he likes to dig his nails underneath the surface and peel back all those tightly crammed layers, but he hasn’t yet seen anything to make him think any higher of the human race. They’re worthless, like caged animals, and most of them need but a few tugs and prods here and there before they reach a tipping point.

Lucian likes to break people. They’re weak, fragile things, most of them naïve and gullible. He has no remorse. He’s a predator; he’ll spend weeks, even months browsing bars, bookstores, coffee shops, scanning the aisles and perusing the customers, watching their expressions, carefully selecting and targeting his next victim. He doesn’t pull the trigger… he doesn’t need to- he’ll slowly kill them using words and misdirection, watching until they fall apart, piece-by-piece… until all they have left is a bottle of whiskey and a pile of sleeping pills, and broken memories. He knows how to say all the right things at all the right times, how to keep nudging them towards the edge, and it’s always a long drop into hell.

Cynical and apathetic, Lucian possesses the patience of a saint, when it suits him. His opinions are superior to everyone else’s, and although he doesn’t particularly care to argue his case he tends to word his sentences in ways that make it difficult to disagree with him. He’s cruel and spiteful, and despite the detachment, disquietingly intense. He’s a coward, too, and believes in nothing, only himself.

He’s certifiably insane, but you can’t tell at a glance… although you might notice the off-putting light that flares behind those insipid pupils. You know there’s something not quite right, but it’s almost impossible to put a finger on exactly what, and it’s unsettling. Outwardly Lucian is the picture of tranquillity; inwardly a maelstrom lurches, and it makes him incredibly unpredictable. He can fly off the handle at the drop of a hat, but you’d never know when or why.

Intelligent, calculating, but completely unstable, Lucian’s likes and dislikes change like the wind. Something he enjoys one week he can hate the next, and his opinions and morals switch about with equal vigour; on Monday he could check in on his parents with genuine concern cutting through the insouciance, and by Friday he’d sell them out for a few pennies. He’ll take anything or anyone he wants- he’ll use them up and throw them away and not once look back when he’s done.
