Fanart: Vanguardians- Shiryu

This was a fanart done for Vanguardians, a web comic written and illustrated by Frost

The story takes place in a grim alternate reality where monsters run rampant, constantly clashing with humanity. In order to save humanity a team of specialists known as vanguardians are called forth to combat the monstrous hordes. Will humanity prevail in this struggle?

The character portrayed in my fanart is Shiryu Hashituka, one of what seems to be many protagonists. her profile (written by frost 7) States the following:

Name: Shiryu Hashituka
Age: 19
Info: A female Vanguardian commander, second in rank from Salysiar Shio-Ne.
She is a strong Vanguardian who utilizes light and mirage based techniques in
order to defeat her opponents. She is also able to utilize large amounts of her focus and energy to create a powerful focused beam of light creating a shooting blade.

Most of the time she places civilians as her top concern, and constantly adheres to her motto of never leaving anyone behind. She places the well being of people above all else, routinely interacting with the populace and listening to their thoughts.

In times of war, she constantly finds herself going out of her way to save children who have lost their parents and family, and trying to unite them with parents who have lost their children for adoption, thus saving the orphans from the ill intent of the wealthy. She disagrees with many of the policies and ideals associated with her factions empire, but she quietly keeps it to herself, dedicating all her time to the preservation of humanity.

an interesting character indeed

For the art style I used a traditional american style pen and ink drawing, then I used a realistic style of painting fusing it with his style of painting to come up with the colors. I looked through his gallery and couldn't find a colored version this character or a description of a color scheme so I hope the colors I chose aren't too far off of what you imagined. lastly I made a few changes to her armor so that her design would better work with my style. I'm pretty satisfied with this piece accept that the background is rather weak. Unfortunately while I was drawing this I merged a white layer in and by the time i noticed I was one too many undos away from rectifying my error thus the white bg. My only major concern with this piece was my choice of stylization. I wonder if the painting style makes her pose difficult to understand, for instance it might be difficult to distinguish that she is holding a blade in her hand, or that she is kneeling one foot on the ground the other foot on the ground but out our field of view. Overall I'm satisfied with this piece but I can't help being critical of it. Any comments and critique are greatly appreciated.
