Skills: Extremely skilled pilot, particularly in ground-attack roles, while also being extremely proficient in most other roles as well. She is quite handy with a firearm as well, particularly a rifle. She seems to also have a grip on handling ground vehicles of various sorts, particularly in stealing them.
Backstory: Before she joined the military, Marian was no more than a common street urchin with uncommon talent. With both parents dead, the orphan wandered the streets of Corneria city, learning quickly how to survive on her own. She learned to shoot, steal, and drive whilst avoiding gangs and slave-traders in the alleyways and backstreets. She soon began to wish for more, so, at age 14, with an expertly forged ID and Birth Certificate, she approached her nearest Cornerian Military recruiter. The minimum age to join was 16. She joined the enlisted ranks as an attack pilot.
She was through basic and in service with the Air Force before anyone caught the error. Her base commander had her discharge notice completely filled out and ready to hand her when she returned from a training mission in Meteo, but a sudden ion storm caught her 4-flight sortie by surprise. She was the only pilot to survive – the other three, including her squadron leader, perished. Review of the tapes showed that the underage vixen was incredibly skilled, and her instincts were better than many experienced combat pilots.
She attracted the attention of Colonel William Grey, the main commander of a base on Katina. Grey took her in, making her go through the Air Force Academy – he felt her talent too much to not give her a chance to lead – and became something of a surrogate father figure to her. Marian took the chance and ran with it, quickly proving herself worthy of two promotions. When approached by Bill about leading a squadron, Marian came up with a slightly different concept. Stories of the old days of independent squadrons like Star Fox, and their do-all capabilities, inspired Marian, and she made a proposal: Her squadron would be equally proficient on the ground and in the air, able to get into and out of enemy territory and pull off a complex mission by themselves.
Personality: Marian is a strong, tough soul, somewhat abrasive and quite assertive. She makes her authority known and blatantly clear. The prospect of death barely fazes her, as she’s seen her share and does not wish to let the thought affect her. She takes her responsibility very seriously, not wanting to dishonor her mentor, Bill Grey. Marian is seen as a natural leader, easily taking control of a situation, and can intimidate men twice her age, yet, she doesn’t always have to resort to such tactics.
Personally, Marian feels that this new project is her chance to truly be more than just another face, and wishes to make the most of this opportunity.
