The top-left drawing is him at age seventeen. As far as, ya know, bondaged manual labor goes, he could'a been worse off. He actually got weekends off, which is pretty cool. What isn't so cool is that he'd spend those weekends catching a ride into town, robbing people, and then blowing all the money on slatternly women and mind-altering substances. Also, he was a
mean little sunuvabitch.
Bottom right drawing is him in his late thirties. He gets really mellow, there, towards the end of his short life.
The other two are, I guess, in that mid-to-late-twenties range where our story takes place (and we therefore mostly see him.)
...Yes, yes, he
does look about fifteen years older than he is. That comes from harrrrrrrrrd livin'.
