School
School
People rush down the hallways,
Aiming for their next class.
Others stop, to the annoyance of some,
Directly in the middle, clogging
The ever-streaming traffic
The bell rings, the door shuts,
The teacher walks in, class has begun.
Students whisper above the lecture,
Papers passed out, taken up, writ upon.
Students laugh at a stupid mistake
And freeze when the teacher
Explodes in anger at a fellow classmate
Only to resume talking after the teacher has left
The bell rings, the teacher announces
A last minute test, as the students
Stream out, gossiping and plainly
Ignoring the teacher—lunch.
Doors stream open, half the school
Is emptied out in less than three minutes
As they head out for food.
Lunch is spent lazily with friends,
Watching cards games, eating
And joking around.
Lunch never seems long enough.
Class again, the day goes by
Teachers, students teachers again.
Seventh period arrives, blessed relief.
The class is more rambuctus than most
Eager to go. Teahcer demands silence
The students rebel.
The bell rings, end of the day
People race each other out the door
Cars are started, buses are loaded,
Each kid leaving to go where-ever.
The school stand empty,
And just as weary
For they’ll all be back again,
Tomorrow.

Doctor Dolittle Says:
Sometimes, I wish I attended a normal school.
Allow me to write my own:
A miasma of smoke
Smelling heavily of marijuana
Envelopes the patchwork edifice
1/2 established in the 20's
Finney Engineering College
1/2 established in the 30's
Loretto Academy
And yet, one more half
Established in the no-one-knows
KCA
Roughly 60 students
Only about 30 of which
Ever attend classes
Maybe, if you are lucky,
There will be 5 other people in your class
That will be good for math
Because you will be sent outside
To do whatever
That will be bad for acting
Because you will inevitably have
To do your scene
(both components are there)
Nothing will happen
During that drug-induced haze
Maybe someone will streak
Maybe a teacher will faint
All you know is that you just
Jacked someone's iPod from their car
And you will score some acid tonight
