“Following the spearhead of Marneaux, West Lumis, I have finally gotten around to the…revalidation of our competition to see who is the most powerful magician amongst our latest graduating classes.” Jay Slatford turned around to the newest Headmaster of perhaps the only Magical Academy of Lumis. “Drake Irving.”
Slatford stood at a gaunt 6’2”, which was still taller than the average height of a Hells demon. Despite his thin frame, Slatford imposed upon the Headmaster more than any other individual Drake had ever met. There was something about Jay that bothered Drake, and it had nothing to do with his appearance. Jay Slatford was ranked number one in the Magical Academy of Hells; his major magic selections being light and shadow. By Hells standards, Jay Slatford was probably the most prestigious magic user of their graduating class, but by Lumisonian standards, Slatford might as well have been God and the Devil, simultaneously.
Drake’s robes were very plain in comparison to Jay’s fine-cut black suit and tie, but Drake would have asserted that his choice of clothes were more vibrant. Having said that, nobody wore purple from Lumis. It was a new style choice that the Headmaster found intriguing. All he would need was a hat to go with the tunic.
“You asked that there be ten of us,” Drake began, his eyes focused heavily on Jay. “The top ten magicians or graduating-class warriors of Lumis.” With a shake of his head, Drake asserted the point he had hoped to assert before the conversation went any further. “Hells magicians have much more power and control than we do. You can’t expect that we’d be able to compete with ten of you.”
“In the past year, your selected magicians had defeated the Rogue King of the Rogue City of Marneaux.” Jay’s smirk was painted on his face. The only other person as pale as Jay could have been William White. The difference was that Jay had black hair; something that made his face contrast even more in the light. “You mean to tell me, Irving, that your team couldn’t match up to ours? Don’t be absurd. We haven’t encountered regular, real combat. We should be fairly matched.”
“We’re speaking theoretically, here.” Drake turned away from Jay to look out the windows of the Hells dorm room; the room reserved for the number-one magician in Hells. “All of your lords, nobles, all of you have mastered spells far more powerful than we have. What makes you think that any level of battle experience will give us the competitive edge we need to push us over the edge?”
“I think you’re afraid of getting hurt, new Headmaster.”
Drake wordlessly turned his head to face Jay, only a bit surprised over the interpretation. Jay put his hands in his suit pockets.
“You think that despite our control, the countless duels we’ve played out, the wands we can purchase, we will rough up your party and possibly severely injure someone.” Jay relaxed his smile. “Both of our groups know when enough is enough, and there’ll be a third group to balance the scale. The only question I had to ask you was how much competition would you be willing to face?”
“What do you mean?” Drake’s eyebrow rose.
“For starters, this competition was a planned, long duel between the ten of Lumis and the ten of Hells. But already I’ve gotten news that other people want in, to test their magical skills. It’s all safe, so with that out of the way, we’re looking at a full-on tournament. To not only see which area is better, but who is the number one magician of all our relative graduation classes.” Jay turned to look outside the window, as well. “Drake, you and I know that we are much superior to our respective classes, but what say you to a test of our skills? To see who does better in a make-or-break situation? To find out who can stave off the pressure and come out on top?”
Drake was never truly convinced that magic was something that dissolved danger away. When dealing with the elements, there was only one magic that lowered danger or could negate other magics and reduce danger that way: his own, molecular magic. The problem was that he was the only one who knew how to get that magic done. Still, Jay’s point resounded in Drake’s mind. These Hells magicians have been using magic for a long time, and everyone knows their limit. Anyone who could not understand their limits were probably looking into the wrong profession. Magic was for the strong-willed, not the weak-minded.
“I guess I’ll bring the ten in tomorrow.”

The first part of the Trilogy Wizard Faction Showdown

So-called the faction showdown due to the three-way team-battle between Central Lumis, Malevolence City, and a Wildcard team selected mutually by Drake Irving and Jay Slatford.

Oh em gee.

i'm looking foward to this....

I was kind of surprised to see my character there, but that's really cool.

But a tribal/light/water/melee character?

I don't have an issue with tribal, cause I don't know what it is, and want to see it. And I assume the melee is cause I'm Srarmian, and have natural talent in that area. But water? I don't see myself going for water spells. I was actually planning on being more of a light/metal/molecular character.

I guess for the purposes of the story (if you want to keep Drake unique), then you can ignore the molecular, but the metal is kind of a big deal.

Meh. Your story, your interpretation of my characters. Can't wait to see.
