I read somewhere on the net, when i was looking for a tatoo design that lotus have a meaning.
it's said that since this beautiful flowers are born from mud and slowly transform in this true "jewels" of nature, they represent the change, like, comming out of darkness and become a better being. They are just tooo wonderful to be real... but they are.
So... a reborn soul, may not be as pure as a newborn, but it's a fresh start, taking all the exerience and transforming it into wisdom and knowledge. A Lotus
