His name is Naughty Pimpin. He is my own creation. :D

I once heard of a way to make sprites by tracing your own drawings (or pictures, or screen shots, or whatever). Curious and wanting to test my technique, I got out a screenshot from The Sims 2 where Naughty lived. I took that screen shot into Photoshop, traced the image in black (first shot on the left), then went into Paint and painstakingly erased all the gray pixels by hand, all while laying down my black lines in their final form. (The eraser trick doesn't work because the gray pixels are all of different hex codes). I put down some flat color, then began shading it.

In all, it probably took me 6 hours or more to get this far. He's not done yet, but I'm very proud of him. He's all scratch, as you can see. No base. And don't even tell me that tracing an image of my own character makes it "not scratch". Look at the steps. He is most definitely 100% scratch.

He looks great!:D I'm still confused though how you shade without having to go over your line art but without having to fill either.O_o

I don't know why but his name is pretty catchy.XD I need to play the Sims again, that's always a fun game to play!

Wonderful job! It looks so professional!

Hee hee, I can even tell what clothing and hair models you used in the game. ^_^

If I had time, I would go back to spriting... XD

Looks really great. And making a sprite from your own sketch IS making a sprite from scratch. In fact, for classic fighting games, they first draw the character and then on the computer make the sprites based on those drawings.

So no one should tell you it isn't a sprite made from scratch.
