I also designed each of the four elements to... represent something. I decided to break tradition a bit with it; whereas Fire would've been power, Water would've been wisdom, and Wind would've been courage (In the sense of Legend of Zelda), I chose instead for wind to be wisdom, water to be kindness, fire to be determination (aka courage), and earth to be power.
This, of course, has effects on the sub-elements. Lightning is tied mostly to wind, but because of its destructiveness I also tied it to fire. This means Lightning should be wisdom and courage. Ice, meanwhile, is wind and water, which means wisdom and kindness. For the second, the only thing I could think of was "Ice has to be a female." I ended up looking at Shiva from the Espers, as well as water spirit Undine from Tales of Symphonia, when trying to envision Tisha. That's how she came out like she did.
