It is still common belief that the wedding ring shouldn't be removed once it is put on. The thought is that the destruction or loss of the ring will predict the collapse of the marriage itself. If, unfortunately the ring is lost, damaged or broken, these consequences can be avoided according to this tradition: the other person in the marriage needs to present a replacement as soon as possible. The wedding vows must be renewed and the new ring slipped on to the finger. One interesting note concerning the removal of wedding rings is a regional variation. It states that the rings maybe taken off with safety and with no apparent consequences any time after the birth of the first child of the couple.
