Dead Squirrel Shirt-of-the-Month shirt #1...my favorite pharaoh, Akhenaten!

When Amenhotep IV became ruler of Egypt in 1353 BC, he brought his own new spin to things in what is now known as the Amarna Period. He declared that instead of the colorful pantheon of Ra, Osiris, Anubis and the rest, there was only one god, the Sun-god Aten. The pharaoh changed his name to Akhenaten, and told everyone to worship the Sun. "And while we're at it, no more of this hard-ass warrior attitude. Let's talk about love n' peace and all that kinda good hippie stuff! And all our art shall be curvy and wiggly! Fabulous dance party!"

...After he died, Egypt tried to forget this embarrassing period in their history, and afterwords referred to ol' Akhey as "the enemy" or "the heretic". Ah, well, can't please everybody...
