Wow that's pretty sweet! And tracing isn't, from my perspective, nearly as reliant on the original picture as vectoring is, and vector artists get props all the time (and rightly so, it still takes talent and savvy). G'job :)
You are very very good with your work. I didn't know you went from such low quality pictures. I'm impressed. I'd like to try this method of yours and maybe let you know how it turns out.
i agree it is tracing and im a little disappointed.
but unlike some people, i think it does take skill to make it looks the way you make it look. good job :'D
Ah, unlike some of the other comments you've gotten, I think it's neat how you go over really grainy, low quality pictures and you modify the hairstyles and add accessories too, which
I find is pretty sweet. I doubt a person without experience in
photoshop could do this. o:
Everyone getting on this artist's case because this is a "trace" or "paint over" is a moron. Many famous painters (Vermeer definitely and maybe even Caravaggio) used a camera obscura, a device that reflected the scene they were going to paint onto their canvas where they then TRACED the image. Does that mean they lacked skill? NO! They still had to paint that shit in! Even with tracing, they needed a butt ton of talent.
As far as I am concerned, this artist is doing something similar, and you can tell by the quality of the over painting with its understanding of light and color that the artist needed talent to pull this off. THEREFORE, stop being dumb little crotches and suggesting no effort or ability went into this. Tons of highly respected artists do this or something similar.
The problem is when a dumb kid who doesn't have skill paints over a picture and pretends it was all their doing. That this artist truthfully shows their process, and the fact that the end product is highly skillful and not just a streaky smudgy version of the original... yeah. Shut up. This is art, this is good art. Stop being snobs.
To the artist- Good job, keep it up. Don't listen to these kids, honestly. They don't get it.

This is what we call a paintover, ie it is tracing. This is in no way referencing nor does it take skill to do.
