This is the pencil work for the first of my male portraits, this one of Tyler a rather new entry into my roster of characters. After him will come (in no real order) Seth Harless lead singer in a rock band, Leonid Feorus (of course) another Composite and a mercenary, Apollo Li Xephira a fantasy-world centered King and pretty boy, Ardin Blaine Phoenix son of Rin and a blacksmith, and Enki a half-blood with dragon features here and there. I recently shifted my artistic focus to character design for video games and this is my little try at a more "manly" character to fit in with games and worlds like Gears of War, Army of Two, Manhunt, etc. Most if not just about all of games have male leads still so I worked on a nice slab of beefcake. I dug back into my brain for my roots in comic art and went through various covers from heroes like Batman, The Flash, Thor, The Green Lantern, etc and sketched my own version of the classic "running comic hero" pose. I used a lot of scenes from The Flash and Captain America to nail it just right.

I hope to ink him soon after a bit of practice with solid "not girly" lines and get him colored during deadweek. On to a little bit about Tyler. He has patches of different colored skin because he is a Composite, similar to the idea of androids in most sci-fi fare but with my own little twist to it. He's been blown up, shot, stabbed, burned, you name it a number of times and often had to make his own repairs to his body so he used whatever skin was on hand regardless of if it matched or not. He smokes. A lot. Kinna my tribute to heroes like Solid Snake and Big Boss always seen with tobacco hanging out of their mouths. I love Tyler and I'll get the inking up as soon as it is done.
