-THIS MANGA IS READ LIKE A TRADITIONAL MANGA, FROM RIGHT TO LEFT-
Trying to write Star's character has been a pain. Why? Well, before I had developed Star of Destiny into the story it is now, I had already developed most of her character. She was, in the most basic form, that extremely nice, innocent girl. If I had to do comparisons to anime characters, take Hinata's (From Naruto) general niceness and combine it with Inoue (From Bleach). That's Star in a nutshell.
Then I went and developed the story and put Star into a position that turned her into a
Mary Sue, which I wasn't happy about.
Since then, I've been trying to write Star in such ways that she's not seen as a Mary Sue, but also where she's not
The Chick nor a
Faux Action Girl, and this proves to be difficult. On one half, I want her in the action and doing stuff, but I have to make sure she's not overpowering or will bending which can be hard given the sort of power she contains. While I could avoid this by placing her in the sidelines, I don't want to do that either.
So her character has been hard to work with. I've done my best to add quirks in her personality to reduce the Mary Sue effect, I've done what I can to make her not will-bending, which is going well, and I've written her to have a broad range of emotions. She can, and does, get angry. Although it doesn't occur much in this first chapter, Star will also see a lot of action. I constantly try to write situations that can always be a toss-up in what happens, just so she won't be overpowering. It's been difficult, but fun.
